Mangalore Konkans Dubai Sports Meet was a super hit success

Dubai, 09 Feb 2013: In one of the most spectacular event organized by Mangalore Konkans in the recent time Konkan Sports Meet 2013 was one the best and played in total sportsman spirit and enjoyed by all young and old.
The wonderful sports day was held at the Higher College of Technology, Dubai Al Ain Road on Friday and even there were three to four programs in Dubai that day, a large number of Konkani Mangalorean sports enthusiastic made it to the ground took part in a fun-filled games through out the day.
The spectacular march past was organized for six selected teams were led by beautiful sari worn ladies of Bellevision association. It was a treat to watch as all participants followed these ladies ceremonially accompanied by DJ traditional March-Past Band.
The amazing sports day began at about 10am with the symbolic torch carried by national-level medal winning athlete Seema Rordrigues and received by ceremoniously by entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronald Colaco. He commanded Mangalore Konkans for their efforts in holding all the sports events professionally not only this year but all the sports events held in the previous years.
The event director Albert Rodrigues administered the oath to all the participants. The guests on dais present were Fr Max Capuchin, President James Mendoca and Walter Nandalike. Also on dais were entrepreneurs Ivan Fernandes, Michael D’Souza and Joseph Mathias were the guests of honour.
The ever green and compere of comperes Roshan D’Silva, of Mangalore Konkans and Leela D’Souza the compered the sports event all day and had the participants all info available and announcements were done both in Konkani and English. The entire sport event was co-ordinated by team leader Kumar Fernandes.
More than 300 participants took part in the fun-filled sports event. In total there were 50 track events, and of the popular item was a 100 meters track event for men and for women above 60 and it was a big hit and fun to watch and more than 50 participants in each catagory.
However, the highlight of the day was Tug-of-war between fought between eight teams and it was so intense as none would give up the rope and held both ends and finals were ultimate as both the teams fought until their energy was completely drained and finally Konkans Dubai (Pink team) rein supreme beating their strongest opponent Lorretto (Blue team). It was indeed a special sports item which was even enjoyed by the audience and to be remembered for a very very long time to come.
All the winning teams celebrated the victory in grand manner. President of Mangalore Konkans Dubai, James Mendonca proposed the vote of thanks and thanked all the sponsors, well-wishers and all the participants for the most memorable sports day and was grateful to all the committee members who made this day most spectacular sports day.
This sport event was of Mangalore Konkans Silver Jubilee celebration and many of the events are in pipeline through out the year as part of great Silver Jubilee celebration.
