Encroachment of state-owned Land in Manipal by Private Parties worth Rs 20 Crore Repossessed by Dist

Udupi,20 Dec 2012: The district administration has taken early measures in order to take possession of state-owned land worth Rs 20 crore that was encroached by private parties.  It has taken repossession of state-owned 4.44 acre land located in Shivalli village, near Manipal, here, which was encroached by a few private parties in connivance of government staff.    

 
 
 
A few private parties submitted an application to the then Tahsildar, in order to make amendments to land records bearing survey number 345 located in Shivalli village for the existing land of 11.56 acre by including additional of 4.44 acre, and to issue title-deed for a total of 16 acre. 

 

 
Accordingly, the officers at taluk panchayat were supposed to prepare the relevant papers recommending issuing title-deed for 16 acre instead of 11.56 acre and forwarding the same to RRT department for the approval of Assistant Commissioner.  However, the survey department officials violated the norms and acted on their own interest in amending the records to include encroachment of 4.44 acre. 

 
Meanwhile, the issuance of title-deed for a total of 16 acre was brought to the notice of the then Tahsildar, thereby it was clear that the encroachment of state-owned 4.44 acre land also included in title-deed. The Tahsildar issued an inter-office-memo to Deputy Commissioner, to ratify the changes made to title-deed. 

 
Further, as per the instruction of Deputy Commissioner, the notices are being served to 11 private parties for their alleged involvement in encroachment of state-owned land under survey number 345, in addition of 11.56 acre.  Besides, the Deputy Commissioner has issued orders to take legal action on those officers who effected the change in title-deed out of their ill-interest, informed Kundapur assistant commissioner Sadhashiv Prabhu.
