Kaup, 29 September 2012: Artists Srinath Manipal, Venki Palimaru and Ravi Hirebettu from Manipal Sand Arts who always spread awareness on preserving good health through their programs and arts in various media giving information to people, created a “Heart Awareness” sculpture in sand on Friday, on the occasion of World Heart Day, at Kaup sea beach.

Throughout the world 1.70 crores of people die every year due to heart related diseases, which is the second most cause for the untimely death. This figure will reach to 2.5 crores by 2030. The intention of this sculpture is to give this information, said these artists of Sand Arts.

World Heart Day was created in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading cause of death and the number is rising every year. Together with its members, the World Heart Federation spreads the news that at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided if the main risk factors, tobacco, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, are controlled.

Worldwide activities such as public talks and screenings, walks and runs, concerts or sporting events are organized worldwide by members and partners of the World Heart Federation. This year in continuation from our 2011 theme of home heart health we will make 2012 the year of cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention among women and children because: Women/children and CVD are not synonymous:

CVD is commonly considered an “older persons” and a “man’s” disease Women underestimate their CVD risk; even though almost half of the 17.3 million annual deaths occur in women Children are particularly at risk, since they have little control over their environment and can be limited in choices to live heart-healthily.

Unless action is taken to enable heart-healthy activity, the children of today are at increased CVD risk later in life. Women / mothers are often the gate keeper to their family’s health hence a key influencer in keeping their hearts healthy.

Heart is the most important organ of our body. People through their irregular food habits, uncontrolled deposition of fat in the body and lack of exercise is causing the damage to heart. With these things in the background the art has been prepared as if the heart is pleading to protect itself form all these bad habits, in order to spread awareness among the people .
