Katpadi: Udupi District Krishi Utsav Inaugurated

Katpadi, 20 May 2012: Due to the competition in the market, shortage of labourers, less respect – position in the society for the farmers in the society, the youth of the agricultural families get higher education and migrate to the cities in search of job opportunities. The main intention of this Krishi Utsav is to encourage the youths to achieve progress in the agricultural field through scientific farming using modern technology, said Udupi Jila Panchayath Chief Officer S.A. Prabhakara Sharma.
He was speaking in the inauguration function of the two days “Udupi District Krishi Utsav – 2012” in Katpadi Nehru Maidaan on Saturday. Speaking further he said that, more priority is being given to the agriculture which is the main source of income for the financial system. In the district there is 1.84 lakhs hectares of agricultural land and the district administration is emphasizing the cultivation of that land, he said. In the district the agricultural land is reducing and the paddy cultivation is diminishing, he said.
The Krishi Utsav was inaugurated by senior farmer Ponkra Poojary by lighting the lamp. Since the Vidhana Parishad election policy was implemented, the people’s representatives sat in front of the stage and watched and listened to the speeches. Kaup MLA Lalaji R. Mendon, Jilla Panchayath President Katpadi Shankara Poojary, 3rd Finance Committee Implementation Committee President A.G. Kodgi, Vidhana Parishad Member Kota Shrinivas Poojary, Former Minister Vasantha V. Salian and Jilla Panchayath Vice President Jyothi S. Shetty were present.
Also present in the inaugural function were Jilla Panchayath Members Savitha S. Kotyan, Upendra Nayak, Ida Gibba D’Souza, Babu Shetty, Taluk Panchayath President Devadasa Hebbar, K.M.F. President Raviraj Hegde, Shrikshethra Dhrarmastala Gramabhivradhi Yojane Acting Director and Jilla Project Officer Dayasheela, Jilla Krashika Samaja President Ashok Kumar Kodgi, Katpadi Rotary President Jagannatha Kote, Youth leader Vilas G. Nayak, Katpadi Grama Panchayath President Suguna Poojary, Joint Krishi Director B.Y. Shrinivasa, Shrikara Anchan Katpadi, Kollabettu Ravindra Shetty Shirva and Fisheries Federation President Yashpal Sharma.
Earlier attractive procession was conducted, which started from near Katpadi Canara Bank along with still picture posters, through the Katpadi town to the Nehru Maidan. The procession included trumpet, decorated Kambala buffalos, agricultural tools, modern agricultural equipments – machineries and various costumes which made the procession more attractive. Everyone were given the traditional welcome with jiggery and water.

Very good encouragement to youth for continuing agriculture as main occupation. If insurance is provided to the farmers for loss of crops, it will further motivate them to take up agriculture as their main occupation. |
