Doha, 13 February 2012: The Greatest event of the year for the Gulf Mangaloreans and the only talent hunt for the Mangalorean singers residing in the Gulf, THE GULF VOICE OF MANGALORE – Season 3 has been announced to be held on the 19th of October in Doha Qatar. This prestigious event for this season is in the hands of Mangalore Cultural Association Doha Qatar, who have already created a mark in the hearts of the people for their innovative way of organizing Konkani programs in Doha.
MCA has always done something novel and has planned this major event in the best possible way. MCA President Mr. Harry Lobo along with his Executive committee members is all set for this great Day. Veena Rebimbus Pais will be the main coordinator for this season of Gulf Voice of Mangalore. Leslie Rego, Bendur, as usual in his unique style will intervene the Whole event.

GVOM season one and two had both created sensation for all the Mangaloreans worldwide. This season definitely will also create waves and prepare platforms to the upcoming Mangalorean talents. Initiated by Lawrence Pinto and Louis Rodrigues from Kuwait, from the time of its origin, Gulf Voice of Mangalore has come a long way giving opportunities to many young Mangalorean talents across the Middle East.
The second season was successfully organized by the Mangalore Konkans Dubai, which also brought in lots of new talents. In a way it has build a special musical bond between the Mangaloreans residing in the Middle East and brought them together under one roof called the GVOM. Waiting lots of excitement this year to pick up those 2 voices who will be the lucky Male and Female performers to bag the prestigious title of GULF VOICE OF MANGALORE.

Mangalore Cultural Association, Doha Qatar has announced the format of the competition with few modifications from the previous 2 GVOM’s. Applications will be online shortly on Daijiworld the official website of this event. The rules and regulations of the competition and the details of the coordinators / organizers of the participating countries are as mentioned below:
Rules and Regulations
- Conditions of entry
The competition is open to singers of Mangalore origin with residence in any of the GCC countries born on or before 15th October 1994. Participants should hold valid country (GCC residing) residence. Visit visa holders are not entitled for the competition. The title holders of the previous 2 GVOM’s will be restricted from participating in this season. The runner’s up of both the seasons are permitted to try for the title this year.
- Format of the Competition
The competition will be held in two categories, as male and female category separately, in three stages:
- A preliminary round auditioned anonymously by a local preliminary judging panel of respective country. 6 male and 6 female singers will be selected from each country
- Semi-Finals for the chosen 12, which will be held in the respective countries. Judging panel either from the same country or from the participating countries or from India as decided by the local organizers. One male and one female voice will be selected for the Finals
- Grand finale will be held in Qatar for both the categories from the participating 6 GCC nations, in front of the Jury as decided by Mangalore Cultural Association, Qatar which is the Host country organizers.
- Prizes
There will be 3 prizes awarded in each category as Winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up
Winner: Rs 1, 00,000/- (Indian Rupees One Lakh only), Trophy and the title Gulf Voice of Mangalore in each category
1st Runner Up: Rs. 50,000/ (Indian Rupees Fifty Thousand only) and a Trophy in each category
2nd Runner Up: Rs. 25,000/- (Indian Rupees Twenty Five Thousand only) and a Trophy in each category
The decisions of the jury are final and incontestable.
The prizes will be awarded at the end of the finale.
- Applications
Candidates must send to the address given on the official entry form to arrive no later than the deadline date as decided by their local organizers with the following
- Application form duly filled in Capital letters or typewritten
- Copy of the passport or identity card as a proof of residence and age.
- A nominal payment fixed by local organizers as registration fee at their respective countries.
- 2 recent photographs of good quality, free of rights (or CD ROM 300 dpi)
- A complete CV with short biography
The competition will only consider applications submitted with all requested supporting material. Applications can be filled and submitted personally, by fax, email or through online form of www.daijiworld.com
- Selection of songs
The competition is dedicated to Konkani Solo songs only from the released Mangalorean albums (DVD/CD/Cassette). Religious hymns are not allowed. Any song which devalues the moral or any kind of attack on religion, person or country is not permitted.
- Auditions: A preliminary drawing of lots will determine the order in which candidates will perform for the audition rounds which will be held in the respective country of residence. 12 Candidates ( 6 Male and 6 Female) will be selected by a panel of qualified local judges on the basis of the performance (6 from each category). Their decision will be communicated to each candidate at the end of the program. Only box guitar is allowed for audition during the preliminary rounds. No electronic instruments allowed. No sequence / minus track allowed for any rounds. All songs should be sung in Konkani and from memory. Selected applicants will receive an official invitation specifying date, time and venue in order to register personally in respective country of origin. The candidates confirm that they are free of all professional obligations during the competition and that they can travel and stay in Doha for the grand Finale. If selected for semi- finals, the participant should give the organizers the names of five Mangalorean Konkani songs (only from the released albums) and the name of the album / composer of the song in their priority order.
- Semifinals: A preliminary drawing of lots will determine the order in which candidates will perform for the semifinal rounds which will be held in the respective country of residence. The local organizers will provide the song to be sung for this round from the song list provided by the participants. The song should not cross 6 minutes including music. Music for semifinals will be provided by the local organizers. The judges will select the 2 finalist from each participating country one male and one female from the 12 Semifinalist.
- Grand Finale: Will be held in Qatar, Celebrity Judges as nominated by the Host country organizers, will select 2 best voices, one male and one female after the finalists go through some interesting and challenging rounds. Music for the finals will be provided by the Main organizers of the host country for which professional musicians will be accompanying. The best voice in each category will win the title of Gulf Voice of Mangalore and will carry home the prestigious trophy and prize money as per the entitlement. There will also be First and Second Runners up trophy and the prize entitlement in each category. The judge’s decision will be final and incontestable to be accepted respectfully by all participants and the organizers.
- Judging Criteria: The Judges will take into account the special characteristics of Song Recital as an artistic partnership between singer and will consider:
Understanding of the genre
Choice of material
Musicianship ( Rhythm and control over the song)
Technical Competence (Clarity of words, pitch q quality and voice culture)
Rapport with the audience
Versatility in program (expression and general presentation)
Each participant will be encouraged with a suggestion by one of the jury member after their performance
Transport – accommodation - The details about the Transport and accommodation for the Grand Finale Competitors will be provided by the local organizers. Publicity The Competition reserves the right without payment of fees to record, televise, and film, video, broadcast or photograph all stages of the competition for media or archive purposes as well as to produce a publicity CD or DVD of all stages of the competition. The Competition reserves the right to use photos and biographies of the candidates and is responsible for the conception of all communication media. Insurance The selected candidates have responsibility to contract a health and accident insurance policy for the duration of their stay in Qatar. It is not a must for the competition.
Should the competition be cancelled because of war, civil or political disturbance, epidemic, fire, national mourning, strikes, the Competition would not be held responsible and would be cleared of all expenses. The candidates accept the present rules.
The organizers reserve the right to refuse any entry without giving reasons. The jury has the right to stop any candidate’s performance at any stage of the competition. Prizes are awarded, and may be withheld, at the jury’s sole discretion. The jury’s decisions are final. The organizers reserve the right to record or broadcast any part of the semifinal or final without payment to the participants. Organizers cannot accept liability for any loss or injury arising in connection with any candidate’s participation in the Competition howsoever caused.
