Qatar, 04 April 2010: Thousands visit Qafco Flower show in Mesaieed Qatar every year as it is one of the largest event of its kind in this region. In this year the Qafco flower show was held on 02 April 2010. More than 14,000 people visited the show which attracted 400 competitors. About 4,500 exhibits were on display.

The contests included vegetable and fruit carving, ice and butter carving for professionals and hotels and various types of flower arrangement competitions for nurseries, flower shops, professionals, and schools. My friend Mr. Milind Mahajani who visits this show regularly gave me some pictures he had from the flower shows of this year and last year, to share them with Bellevision viewers.

In this event the most thrilling part is the live contests in ice carving, vegetable carving and flower arrangement competitions. They were performed live in front of the public, who watch the huge masses of ice and water melons and pumpkins, as the graceful and sometimes violent strokes of the artists’ chisels turned them into eye catching sculptures of fish, falcons and swans. Professional participants from Doha’s major hotels and clubs and amateurs take part in the contest.

Qafco (Qatar Fertilizer Company) was founded in 1969 to produce chemical fertilizers was the first and a significant step in Qatar’s industrial diversification program to utilize its abundant natural gas resources. Since then Qafco has steered its way successfully, responding adequately to the world market demand for fertilizer.

This flower show showcases the company’s care for aesthetic appreciation, environmental awareness and its green policies aimed at day-to-day living. Qafco gives the message that it is the duty of all to preserve the environment to a great extent as we can, whereby maintaining a clean and green safer ecosystem for all beings of nature to survive in.

And we wonder, why there is food crisis all over the world. Yes, the art work is amazing, but still a looot of food is being wasted.. I think this is a craze among many people(especially the Arabs).. They just like to show that they have things in plenty. Once i got a forward, wherein, a fiest was prepared for the Royal family of Saudi, and, they had a loooooot of left overs, which they dumped. Well, people will realise the value of things only when they have worked for it and also when the things we take for granted are no more.
