Kuwait: KCWA Celebrates Nativity Feast

Kuwait, 26 September 2011: The Celebration of the feast of the birth of our lady has always been a uniting factor for the Konkani speaking Community in Kuwait.
Kuwait Canara welfare association along with Konkani Community and other associations - Shirva Welfare Association, Kuwait Pangla Association, Kundapur Varado Welfare Association, CRC Chinchinim Sports Club, Colva United Centre and Goan Cultural Centre celebrated the feast of Nativity (Monthi Festh) at Holy Family Cathedral, Kuwait, on 11th September 2011.
At 3.00pm thousands of devotees gathered near the church grotto for the blessings of new corn followed by a procession by the faithful to church to venerate Mother Mary on this blessed day.
The main celebrant of the Konkani mass was Rev. Fr. Noel Almeida Assistant Parish Priest, Our Lady of Arabia church, Ahmadi, and Fr. Gasper Fernandes, Parish Priest, Holy Family Cathedral.
Fr. Noel in his homily spoke about mother’s love towards her children and how she keeps the family together. He also narrated with mother we come closer to Christ Jesus.
Before the final prayers Bishop Camillo Ballin conveyed his wishes to all gathered for the celebration.
The church reverberated to the sounds of the Konkani choir that awakened the spirit of Monthi fest celebrated back home in Mangalore & Goa.
After the mass, Bishop Camillo Ballin along with Fr. Noel, Fr. Gasper and deacon Sylvester D’Souza blessed the ’Novem Jevann’ with a prayer in the church hall in the presence of KCWA committee members and volunteers.
The event concluded with novem meals served to more than 3000 faithful those who were present.
