Udupi, 17 September 2011: Art is the internal feeling of an artist, it is not possible to understand it through a language. Artist gets inspired by his culture and surrounding and he presents it in his art. So in order to understand that art, first the culture and the surroundings has to be understood, said popular International painter, Lalithakala Academy former President Peter Louise. He was speaking upon inauguration of the 3 day painting camp on Friday on the occasion of birth centenary of K.K. Hebbar in MGM college.

On the same occasion, debate on K.K. Hebbar and Cultural Programs were organized. Inaugurating this program, 3rd Finance Commision Report Implementation Committee President A.G. Kodgi said that, Udupi district is a cultural centre. There are people from here who have made name for themselves at international level in the fields of  painting, sculptures and yakshagana. K.K. Hebbar was one of the artist among them. His line drawings cannot be understood easily. But at least  to keep his name permanently his books are to be purchased and keep at home, he said. On this occasion the pictures drawn by K.K. Hebbar were unveiled.

Reka Hebbar daughter of K.K. Hebbar, as a respect on behalf of every one, garlanded the picture of K.K. Hebbar. In her speech she said that her father encouraged the young generation to get attracted towards the arts. Inspired by this hundreds of artists came to light and have become famous in national and international level, she said.

The program was presided over by Jilla Panchayath President Katapadi Shankara Poojary. Kannada and Culture department Joint Director K.T. Chikkanna was the guest. Taluk Panchayath President Devdas Hebbar welcomed the guests and the gathering. National Poet Govinda Pai Research Centre Director Dr. H. Krishna Bhat gave introductory speech. MGM college Kannada lecturer Dr. Vasantha Kumar Putti compeered the program. District Kannada and Culture Department Deputy Director H.S. Shivarudrappa proposed vote of thanks.

The birth centenary (15th June) of K.K. Hebbar whom the nation and world praises, has been celebrated bit late, the way this program has been organized by Kannada and Culture Department like any other government function has extremely disappointed the art admirers.

In the birth centenary invitation card the MP of Udupi Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, District In charge Minister Dr. V.S. Acharya, Udupi origin Vidhana Sabha member Oscar Fernandes, Vidhana parishad members; Ganesh Karnik, Prachapachandra Shetty, Kota Shrinivasa Poojary, District MLA’s; K. Raghupathi Bhat, Haladi Shrinivasa Shetty, Gopala Bandary, K. Laxminarayana, Lalaji Mendon, Municipal President Kiran Kumar were all missing!

Birth centenary celebration committee President - District Deputy Commissioner Dr. M.T. Reju and Jilla Panchayath Chief Administrative Officer S.A. Prabhakara Sharma themselves did not participate in the function! Is this not a insult to artist K.K. Hebbar?

The ministers and politicians who did not attend the function to commemorate the birth centenary of the world renowned painter Kattingeri Krishna Hebbar (KK Hebbar) is an insult to the memory of the great painter. These politicians would attend only such functions which would have large gathering and wider publicity and electoral gains. Thank you Snehalatha for highlighting the absence of the ministers including Dr. VS Acharya who is the guardian minister of Udupi where the function had taken place. The absence of the district officials including Birth Centenary Celebration Committee President-District Deputy Commissioner Dr. MT Reju shows the scant respect that these politicians and officials show to the memory of great artists and intellectuals such as KK Hebbar.
