Udupi/M’Belle, 20 Apr 2025: On the special occasion of Easter, ICYM Moodubelle embraced the true spirit of love, sacrifice and new beginnings by organizing a heartfelt visit to Karunyadama Old Age Home in Katpady, Udupi. The event, which was part of their Easter celebrations, saw 24 youth members, along with Parish Priest Rev. Fr. George D’Souza, Youth Coordinator Mr. Valerian Noronha, Youth Animator Mr. Nevil D’Souza, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council Mr. Charles Quadros, Mr. Maxim D’Sa and Mr. Mark Lobo, coming together to make the day meaningful. The event was initiated by President Aaron Barboza, whose leadership guided the team in making the outreach a success.

Karunyadama, home to 14 elderly residents, is managed by Mr. Kumar, who warmly welcomed the group. Mr. Maxim D’Sa introduced ICYM to the residents, explaining the youth movement’s role in shaping young people into better citizens and encouraging them to contribute positively to society. He highlighted the value of community service and how it helps youth grow in character and responsibility, while fostering a spirit of kindness and service towards others. Fr. George D’Souza delivered an inspiring Easter message, reminding everyone of the true  meaning of the season. He also addressed the gathering, offering a short yet meaningful message on Easter and spent time interacting with the elderly, bringing comfort and joy to their hearts.

Mr. Kumar, the Head of the Ashram, shared his heartfelt appreciation and insights. He expressed how deeply joyful the residents felt seeing such a large group visiting them. He also spoke frankly about how charity should come from the heart with sincere intention. His words were a powerful reminder of the value of genuine compassion.

With hearts full of empathy, the youth didn’t just visit — they connected. They brought the joy of Easter to life with action songs, dances, and interactive games. The elderly residents joined in, singing and dancing along with enthusiasm. A particularly joyful moment was the “Passing the Ball” game, where residents introduced themselves when the music stopped, creating moments of shared laughter and connection.

One of the highlights was a finger painting activity, symbolizing the unity between generations and the value of every stage of life. As the youth and elderly residents left their fingerprints on the canvas, it became a beautiful representation of shared experiences and mutual care. Each fingerprint told its own story, yet together they formed a powerful message of connection. Youth Animator Mr. Nevil D’Souza invited the youth to reflect on their experiences, and several members shared their heartfelt thoughts. Mr. Charles Quadros praised the warm welcome from the home and commended the youth for their efforts.

In a generous gesture, the youth donated essential groceries, contributed a significant sum of money and arranged a special lunch for the residents, all from their Lenten sacrifices. Instead of spending on themselves, they chose to save and give — beautifully embodying the message of Easter and Christ’s love. Gifts were also distributed to the residents, bringing joy to their hearts. Mr. Kumar expressed his deep gratitude for the thoughtful contributions and presence of the group. The youth then wished everyone a blessed Easter before saying their goodbyes.

This visit was not just about giving material things,  it was about giving love, restoring hope and reminding the elderly residents that they are seen, valued and loved. The ICYM Moodubelle Easter outreach serves as a powerful reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life.
