Bantwal; Explosives brought for breaking stones in the quarry at Madathadka in Vitlamudnur village of the taluk suddenly exploded due to the intense heat, shocking the people of Vitlamutta and 5 surrounding villages. Houses within a radius of about 4 km were damaged, and many items including the roofs and windows of two houses located a hundred meters away were damaged.
The incident took place near the quarry belonging to the Madathadka N.S. Crusher. It is said that a box of detonators and 200 gelatin sticks were kept together in the middle of the pile of stones. It exploded suddenly at around 1.30 am. The houses belonging to Eshwara Naik and his son Vasanth Mohan, which were about a hundred meters away from the explosion site, were damaged. More than 15 houses in the vicinity of 1 km. were damaged. Items in the houses fell everywhere, and tiles in the tiled roof buildings were displaced. The window glass was crushed, and the cement sheet laid on the roof was scattered. The ceiling was torn into pieces. The wall clock stopped working. The TV in some houses is not working. The window frames of the houses have fallen into pieces. In many parts of Vittalpet, items have fallen from shelves and fallen to the ground. Pillars of houses have cracked. Fortunately, no one was injured.
There is a pile of stones in a deserted area near Kore, and the stock was kept in a way that no one could see it, and the explosion set fire to the grass in the adjacent open area. The leaves of the trees in the area where the stock was kept fell to the ground due to the intensity of the explosion. Superintendent of Police Yatish N., Bantwal Tehsildar Archana Bhat, Revenue Inspector Ravi M.N., Assistant Girish, Panchayat Development Officer Sujaya K., and officials of the Mines Department visited the scene and inspected.
Complaint- Notice for review;
Mining is being carried out about 20 meters from the residential area. Despite several complaints, the authorities are completely unconcerned. The locals alleged that if they file a complaint, the police will slip away saying that it does not belong to them. In this context, Superintendent of Police Yatish has ordered the Vittal police inspector to get information about the mine located 20 meters away and submit a report. He said that the report will be sent to the District Collector and necessary action will be recommended.
