CRI Mangalore Unit Shines in Unity: A Day of Faith, Fellowship, and Celebration

Mangalore, February 2: On the feast of Presentation of the Lord, the Conference of Religious India (CRI), Mangalore Unit, witnessed a historic and spirit-filled celebration as 675 men and women religious from various congregations gathered to mark the World Day for Consecreted  Life with grandeur and deep spiritual fervor on February 2, 2025 at St Aloysius University (Deemed to be) Campus, Mangalore.

 

The day commenced with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by Fr Daniel Veigas OP, Episcopal Vicar for Religious of Mangalore, along with 16 concelebrating religious priests from different congregations. The sight of sisters, fathers, and brothers processing into the hall, each carrying a lighted candle, created a solemn and sacred ambiance, symbolizing their commitment to being the light of Christ in the world.

 

In a poignant moment following the homily, the religious of the Diocese of Mangalore reconsecrated themselves with a heartfelt Prayer of Consecration, renewing their vows and dedication to their spiritual calling. To mark the significance of the Jubilee Year, the Eucharistic celebration concluded with a special Jubilee Prayer of Pope Francis, invoking blessings for continued faith and mission.

 

 A Day of Reflection and Celebration

The post-Mass program began with Mrs. Anita Frank, Secretary of the Women’s Commission of Mangalore Diocese, who graciously welcomed the gathering as the Master of Ceremonies. The event took a reflective turn as Fr. Melvin Pinto, SJ, Rector of St. Aloysius University, delivered a compelling address. Emphasizing the theme of unity, he remarked, “We are one family, and our diverse charisms are the threads that weave the beautiful fabric of consecrated life.”

 

The spirit of camaraderie flourished as the celebration transitioned into an afternoon of lively team games such as throwball and cricket, alongside fun games and a free fair. The enthusiastic participation of AICUF members from St Aloysius University added vibrancy, ensuring the sports activities were engaging and memorable for all.

 Bishop’s Inspiring Message 

Although Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, could not attend in person, his pre-recorded video message resonated deeply with the audience. Centered on the theme, “Consecrated for Mission: Living the Gospel in a Changing World,” the Bishop’s message was both inspiring and thought-provoking. He emphasized, “Mission makes the Church, mission makes the Religious,” encouraging the consecrated to be visionaries, reaching out to the poor and marginalized with purpose and passion.

 

 Cultural Performances and Recognition 

The afternoon session radiated joy with vibrant cultural performances by the formees of the Capuchin, Apostolic Carmel, and Bethany congregations. Their engaging acts showcased the rich talent and diversity within the religious communities.

 

Spot games further energized the gathering, and the winners were honored with prizes presented by Sr. Cecelia Mendonsa, BS, KRCR President, and Sr. Jacintha Saldanha, SAP, Executive Committee Member, KRCR. Their presence and words of encouragement added to the celebratory spirit.

 

 Gratitude and Closing Reflections 

The day concluded with heartfelt words of appreciation. Sr. Cecilia Mendonsa, BS, congratulated the CRI Executive Team for orchestrating an event that beautifully blended spirituality, sports, and fellowship. In her concluding remarks, Sr. Jacintha Saldanha, SAP, emphasized the enduring bond among the religious, stating, “We have come together as one family, and we remain the same forever, united in our mission for the Lord.”

 

Special acknowledgments were given to Sr Aileen Mathias, SCCG, Vice President, for her warm welcome, and Fr Anisio Mota, SDB, CRI Secretary, for his heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing deep gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event’s success.

 

A Day to Remember

The event concluded with a soulful hymn dedicated to Mother Mary, leaving a lasting impression of faith, unity, and joy in the hearts of all participants.
