The Konkani Sangha staged a revival of the renowned Konkani play "Maldisanv," written by the distinguished author Francis Fernandes-Cascia. This marked the first time the play was performed in Mangalore in nearly 25 years.

The event was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Francis Fernandes-Cascia, the writer of the play; Rev. Fr. Melwin Pinto SJ, Pro-Chancellor of St. Aloysius Deemed to be University; Dr. Alwyn Dsa, Registrar of St. Aloysius Autonomous College; Dr. Ronald Nazareth, Registrar of St. Aloysius Deemed to be University; and Rev. Dr. Melvyn D’Cunha SJ, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the university. Their attendance underscored the significance of the occasion.

Directed by Christopher D’Souza, the play was performed in a unique and modernized manner, different from its previous enactments. The students of the Konkani Sangha breathed new life into the story, adding a fresh and creative approach to the performance. Their realistic portrayal of the characters captivated the audience, further enhanced by the innovative presentation style.

A special felicitation ceremony was held for Francis Fernandes-Cascia in recognition of his

contributions to Konkani literature. He expressed his joy at the performance and praised the college for taking the initiative to encourage students to participate in dramas, noting that such efforts help foster motivation and enrich the Konkani community. He appreciated the college’s dedication to preserving and promoting Konkani culture through these endeavors.

The successful organization of the event was made possible by the efforts of the Konkani

Sangha, coordinated by Ms. Flora Castellino. Roshan Crasta ably handled the role of the MC.

The revival of "Maldisanv" not only celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Konkani language but also provided a platform for young talent to showcase their abilities. The realistic and refreshed performance left a lasting impression on the audience and the Konkani community.
