‘Great Teachers, bright futures…’ – Dr Bhaskar Shetty

Udupi/Barkur, 21 Sept: Teacher’s Day was celebrated in very special way by inviting all the teaching and non-teaching staff of ‘National Group of educational institutions’, under one roof, to honour the dedication and contributions of educators on Saturday, 21st September, 2024. The event aimed to foster respect for teachers and to highlight their critical role in shaping the future.
The colourful event began at 10.45 am, with a prayer hymn by the Lecturers Mrs Aishwarya Shetty and Mrs Jyothy followed by a warm welcome from Mr Ashok Kumar Shetty the Secretary of The Barkur Educational Society, a retired Head Master and a proud recipient of ‘Best Teacher Award at National level’, who emphasized the importance of teachers in students’ lives.
Retired Principal Mr Balakrishna Hegde, the Secretary of the ‘NJC Old Students Association’, in his beautifully woven key-note address, called back his nostalgic memories in this National Campus as a student, and later as a professor and then as principal for 12 wonderful years… and today by recognising teachers, the past students of this Alma mater, recognise their efforts, as the event aims to inspire present and future generations to value and uphold the teachings of their educators, he opined.
All the serving teachers were introduced school wise, to the audience and honoured with roses, pen-set and memento, as outstanding teachers were recognized for their exceptional contributions, such as innovation in teaching and community engagement by the guests and dignitaries on stage.
NJC High School teacher, Mr Novel DSilva chosen as the Infosys Best Teacher Award for the 2023-24 was specially honoured on this glorious occasion by draping traditional shawl, garland and fruit basket, memento and a purse.
President of the ‘National Old Students Association’ Mr Karunakar Shetty, thanked teachers for making learning magical, ‘as their guidance lighted my way to success in life today, as their impact lasts for lifetime….National Institutions provide you an ideal platform to be great teachers, as you have the capacity to inspire, educate and empower…..’
In his felicitation address, the Chief Guest of the glittering event, Dr Bhaskar Shetty, Principal of the Dr G Shankar Women’s First Grade College, Ajjarkad, Udupi shared his experiences and insights, inspiring both students and teachers to continue striving for excellence, as a true teacher remain teacher for lifetime, can inspire hope, ignite the imagination and instil a love for learning and congratulated all teachers present and had a special word of appreciation for old students and management of this historical temple town Barkur. Earlier the VP of Old Students Association Mr Harindrnath Shetty gave a crispy introduction of chief guest to the gathering.
Renowned alumni, Chairman of ‘Barkur Panchayat’ and President of the ‘The Barkur Educational Society’, Mr B Shantarama Shetty presided over the stage programme in his message highlighted the vital role teachers play, by imparting knowledge and instilling values and in shaping individuals and communities, fostering a culture of appreciation, and highlighting the importance of mentorship, which is visibly seen in National students of past and present…
The ‘Guruvandana’ much awaited annual affair, generously sponsored by ‘Barkur Educational Society’ and the ‘NJC Old Students Association’ was a resounding success, reinforcing the value of education and the pivotal role of teachers. The positive atmosphere fostered respect and appreciation, encouraging a stronger teacher-student bond. Moving forward, the National institutions aim to continue such initiatives to honour and support their educators.
The well organised programme meticulously presented by Senior teacher Jyothy Shetty, the Treasurer of NJC Old Students Association, as the whole teaching fraternity of six ‘National Educational Institutions’ shared fellowship meal with variety of mouth watering dishes and sweets to cherish, generously sponsored by BES Vice President Mr Shedikodlu Vittal Shetty.
To conclude the programme, Vice President Mr Shetty, proposed vote of thanks to all who made the event a great success.
Among others former long serving illustrious Principal of NJC – Mr B Seetharama Shetty, graced the occasion. Principals of National PU College Prof U Kottraswamy, NITI Principal Prof Kramadhari, Head Mistress of National High School Mrs Hemavathy PS, Principal of SVVN English Medium High School Mrs Likhita Kotary, HM of National Higher Primary Mr Udaya Shetty, Heradi RSM National Hr Primary School Mr Ratnakar Shetty shared their feelings and happiness on behalf of their respective institutions. Correspondents of all the National Institutions, viz Mr Gopala Naik, Mr Rajaram Shetty, Mr Ramachandra Kamath, Mr Ratnakara Shetty, Mr Srinivasa Shettigar, Administrative Co-ordinator of National Educational Institutions Prof P. Archibald Furtado, Retired Principal Prof Balakrishna Hegde, the Secretary of National Old Students Association, Mr A Krishna Hebbar, Treasurer of BES and other office bearers and Members of both BES, National Alumnae Association, all the Lecturers and teachers, non teaching and auxiliary staff were present to grace the special occasion.
