Barkur, 10 May 2024: There was a time, in late 50’sand early 60’s, the whole town Barkur and surrounding villages anxiously waiting for SSLC results, which was normally published in newspapers – names and registration numbers and the celebration around the one and only National High School used to be at its peak and the passed out were hero’s for the town for following few days weeks.
In 1965, one more High School exclusively for girls took its birth in Barkur followed by one in English medium SVVN (Shri Vidyesha Vidyamanya English Medium National High School) in 2004 in Heradi. From the passage of time, most of the feeder primary Schools from distant Shankernarayana – Bidkalkatte to Kokkarnne - Mandarthi deservedly progressed to be High Schools and Junior Colleges.
One of the developments over the last three decades is – for well to do households and brilliant students special attraction was noticed towards city based Colleges. That too acceptable but in recent years mushrooming of speciality English Medium Primary/High Schools and Junior Colleges partly banking on publicity made the holy education field transformed to be competitive and in few cases corrupt in the pretext of imparting quality result oriented education.
In the mad rat-race, many great local Institutions faced set back and few Kannada medium schools closed and now just memories and we can discuss on them some other time.
The achievement or success of an educational institution measured by its result in the State or University level examinations, today the State level SSLC Results are out for the public Examinations held in April, 2024. In the State Udupi ranked first with 94%, Dakshina Kannada secured II slot with 92%. This was back to old glory and we all feel proud of.
Coming to Barkur, we had a High School much before one established in Brahmmavar, Kota etc way back in 1946. The nearest one was located in Kallianpur Milagres High School and the other in Coondapur Govt High School. While going through the results we feel, like the district, our town Barkur too regained its glory…!!
All the three located in Barkur – National High School, Maryknoll High School and SVVN High Schools recorded spectacular 100% results with many distinctions, first Classes etc.
Two were imparting quality education in Kannada medium whereas SVVN in English medium. One interesting point one can notice over here is the students enrolled here are with rural background hailing from poor and middle class families with no great exposure to special tuition classes. The efforts of students, guidance and teaching skills of dedicated teachers and the confidence of parents in these High Schools collectively brought great laurels’ in the name of 100% result.
We congratulate all the individual achievers, Headmistress – Hemavathy PS, National High School, Sr Jasmitha Maryknoll and Mrs Likhita Kotary – SVVN and their respective team of teachers, their Management as well as Parents on this glorious achievement.
