Udupi, 16 Dec 2023: Our Udupi District team mainly comprising NJC Barkur students bagged Bronze medal in Karnataka State level Jump Rope Games competition held in Yadagiri, in this week from 12th December to 14th December 2023.

At the outset, it looks easy and simple but do perform for a length of time requires immense concentration and focus – our young NJC Athletes, with rural background, proved wonderful. Yes, amidst the whirling ropes, the  player skip, step, hop and even twirl, all of it performed in perfect synchrony till one topples over, depending on the rules set for each individual or group event.

Our Physical education director Mr Umesh Shetty accompanied the team Udupi, as Manager, Coach and Guide. Whereas Ms Shusmitha, Lecturer, NPUC – Barkur, Convenor for girls.

‘It’s a proud moment for all of us. We the President, Office bearers and members of Barkur Educational Society, Correspondent, Principal and Staff, the students, the Old students Association, congratulate winners and the entire team for their wonderful exhibition of tact, talent and performance at State level….’the Prof U Kottraswamy Principal NPUC, informed in a press release.

Dynamic, sportive and supportive Physical Director Mr Umesh Shetty shared, ‘Indeed it was a tough competition, as many as 31 Districts from Karnataka sent in their teams. Udupi contingent of 24 mainly comprising athletes from NJC Barkur, 19 and  Jnanasudha PU College Karkala  5, gave a brilliant show – Chinmayee Deshpande of Jnanasudha, II PU Science, won the Gold Medal and Vinoda of I PU Commerce National PU College, Barkur  bagged Bronze medal in 30 Seconds Speed category’.

Karnataka State level Athletic Meet was organised for almost five days in two categories – Silambam, fighting using stick, is a form of martial arts very famous in Southern India, especially in Tamil Nadu, (Kalaripayattu in Kerala, probably in Barkur as Taleem by Famed Aladi Master...) and Rope Games of different types, practiced almost all over India.

‘National High School Barkur’ since its early years from 1946 has a rich and noteworthy record in both track and field in the undivided DK district and thereafter in Udupi. It has the credit of sending its players and athletes to State and National level and being a part of District squad, regularly won shields and trophies. Thanks to well maintained grounds, infra structure and training facilities in the National Campus and encouragement from all quarters.
