Udupi, 13 Aug 2011: In preparation of the Annual Feast of Our Lady of Vailankani Shrine-Kalmady, the parishioners organized a colourful and elegant Offerings (Hore-Kanike) Procession on Saturday, 13 August 2011 at 2.30 pm from Adi-Udupi junction to the Stella Maris Church. Though there was an apprehension of rains as the gathering had to face few showers at around 2.15 pm, the sky opened up soon after and there was sunshine throughout the procession that reached the church at around 3.15 pm.
At the commencement of the Hore-Kanike Procession, Fr. Joseph D’Souza, parish priest of Kalmady, in a brief introductory message said that the ‘Hore-Kanike’ prior to the ‘Annasantarpane’ has been a fine Indian tradition that is being followed by various temples and churches where community meal is being served on the festive occasion. He said that by the participation of the people in ‘Hore-Kanike’ Procession and ’Annasantarpane’ irrespective of community and religion manifest the unity and harmony in the society. He made an appeal to all the devotees of Our Lady of Vailankani to participate in the ’Annasantarpane’ after the solemn Feast Mass at 4 pm on Monday, 15 August 2011. The procession started with the prayer and to the beat of the drums by the Nasik Band of Kalmady and melodious music by the ’Sound of Music’ Band of Malpe.
On reaching the church premises, ladies stood in line with their offerings and the vehicles were parked by the side. Fr. Joseph D’Souza, thanked all the parishioners who had participated in the procession, the bands and the media, including Bellevision. com. He thereafter symbolically received the offerings and blessed them by sprinkling the holy water.
The Annual Feast of Our Lady of Vailankani will be celebrated on Monday, 15 August 2011 at 4 pm with Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, as the chief celebrant. The feast mass will be followed by Annasantarpane to all the visitors to the shrine.
Wishing you all Very Happy Feast.
