Easter Vigil at St john the Evangelist Church, Shankerapura

Udupi, 09 Apr 2023: The Easter Vigil began in St. John the Evangelist Church, Shankerpura on Saturday, at 7pm.. Blessing of the fire was done by Asst. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Vijay D’Souza, along with Rev. fr. Ferdinand the Parish Priest, Rev Fr Anil pinto the Asst. Parish priest.

 

As the Easter Vigil Rite proceeded, Paschal Hymn was sung and the readings were read commemorating the paschal mystery. The readings from the Old Testament were read and the pslams were sung. During the Gloria bells were rung and the lights were switched on to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The gospel was read and Rev. Fr. Vijay DSouza  gave a meaningful reflection on this auspicious evening highlighting the importance of Easter and how to become witnesses of Risen Lord in this modern world. It was followed by blessing of the Holy water and Baptismal promises were renewed by the faithful of the parish and the faithful were sprinkled with the newly blessed Holy Water.

 

 

The solemn Easter Vigil and Holy Mass ended at 9.30 p.m. The Parish Priest extended Easter Wishes to the parishioners and thanked all those who had helped in conducting liturgical and other supporive services during the  holy week. He also thanked the choir group for their melodious singing, The entire parish community for meaningful participation on this Eucharistic celebration. The Easter Vigil Rite ended with the solemn Easter blessing and people greeted each other after the Mass.
