Lions Club, Moodubelle to celebrate Silver Jubilee on 15 December 2022

Udupi, 12 Dec 2022: The Lions Club, Moodubelle that was established on 15 December 1997 will be celebrating its Silver Jubilee on Thursday, 15 December 2022 at 6.00pm at the Lions Seva Bhavan, Moodubelle. The Lions District 317C Governor Ln. Dr. M.K. Bhat, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo-Bishop of Udupi Diocese and Ln. Dr. Austin Prabhu-Candidate for International Director, from Lions District 1A, Chicago, USA will be the chief guests of the function. Besides, First Vice District Governor Ln. Nery Cornelio and Second Vice District Governor Ln Mohammad Haneef will participate in the programme. During the function Past District Governors since 1997 and Past Presidents of the Lions Club, Moodubelle will be honoured. As a major service activity, in commemoration of the Silver Jubilee of the Lions Club, Moodubelle a 40 seater School Bus costing Rs. 20 lakhs will be donated to St. Lawrence Educational Institutions.

The Lions Club, Moodubelle was established on 15 December 1997 with 32 Charter members. Commodore Ln. Jerome Castelino, a retired Naval Officer was unanimously elected as the Charter President and Ln. Devadas Hebbar was the Charter Secretary. Since the Club did not have its own place to conduct meetings and service activities, the Lions Seva Bhavan building was constructed on the 20 cents land donated by late PDG Prof Wilfred D’Souza in 2002. The Lions Club, Moodubelle is one of the very few out of  120 clubs in the Lions District 317C having its own building.

 

The Lions Club, Moodubelle since its inception has been conducting a number of major service activities, the most important being the Free Weekly Dental Camps conducted with the support of the Dental College of KMC, Manipal. The other ongoing medical related camps include annual Free Eye Checkup camps conducted with the support of Prasad Netralaya, Udupi under the able guidance of Dr. Krishna Prasad; general health checkup camps; bone density checkup camps; blood donation, etc. The Lions Club, Moodubelle had provided 120 toilets to the needy families in and around Moodubelle village with the financial support of Rs. 6 lakhs through Padmabhushan Dr. BM Hegde while he was the Vice Chancellor of MAHE. Under the scheme of ‘Home for Homeless’, the Lions Club, Moodubelle had helped in constructing and repairing 14 houses. For the convenience of the travelling public, the Lions Club, Moodubelle had provided about ten Bus Stands and Traffic Mirrors. Financial help has been provided to the poor students and sick people. In 2010, one van and one 25 seater school bus, both costing Rs. 12 lakhs were donated to St. Lawrence Educational Institutions.

 

 

It is a matter of great honour and pride to the Lions Club, Moodubelle that the Charter President Commodore Jerome Castelino and Charter Secretary Ln. Devadas Hebbar have been elected as the President and Secretary respectively in the year of the Silver Jubilee of the Club. This is a rare occasion in the history of Lionism.
