CME and Bariatric surgery workshop at KMC

Mangalore, 30th July 2011: Department of Surgery, KMC Mangalore is conducting a Continued Medical Education Program along with live surgical workshop over three days from July 29th till 31st. This is aimed not only at training post graduate student from all over Karnataka and Kerala; but also to demonstrate latest techniques in laparoscopic as well as conventional surgery. Maj.Gen.(Rtd.)Dr.G.Rajagopal, Dean KMC, Mangalore alone felt such initiatives are necessary so that state of the art treatment techniques are evaluated and internalized by both aspiring as well as practicing surgeons.
Over three days along with lectures, symposia, panel discussions and video presentation, advanced laparoscopic as well as open procedures are being demonstrated live by experts in the field. The high point of the workshop would be live laparoscopic procedures to treat extreme or morbid obesity. This technique otherwise called bariatric surgery is likely to be a boon in near future to people having this distressing problem, especially when they also have metabolic derangements like diabetics. Other laparoscopic as well as open surgical procedures are also planned to make for a wholesome event.
Dr. Madhusudan Upadya, Deputy Medical Superintendent KMC Hospital stated that this is will be a landmark event as bariatric surgery workshop is being held for the first time in coastal Karnataka.
