Mangaluru, 04 Feb 2021: Twenty-seventh death anniversary of Marhoom C Abdul Hameed Sahib, former President of Karnataka state Indian Union Muslim League and former Chairman of Masjid Zeenath Baksh Bunder was observed during a condolence meet held at Muslim Central Committee auditorium, Bunder, here on Thursday, February 4. It was organized by Dakshina Kannada district Indian Union Muslim League.

 

C Abdul Hameed Saheb passed away in the national capital New Delhi during 1994; whose mortal remains were brought to Mangaluru in a chartered flight. The people of Mangaluru belonging to different faiths gathered along the road to cemetery in recognition of his virtues. Such kind of communal harmony prevailed by then.

 

Muslim League leaders advocate Suleiman, Karem Kadaba, Afhan Ali Thangal, Mohammed Ismail, Abdul Hameed, Ibrahim Cheriyon, Riyaz Harekala were present at the dais.

 

On this occasion Kareem Kadaba stressed on the family history and philanthropic views of Marhoom C Abdul Hameed Sahib.

 

 

Mohd Ismail praised him as a leader of the downtrodden and needy.

 

Afhan Thangal and Ibrahim said that loss of Marhoom C Abdul Hameed Sahib is a great loss for their community.

 

In his presidential address, Suleiman Advocate and member of DK district Indian Union Muslim League said, ‘Indian Muslim League was launched in Chennai (erstwhile Madras) on March 10, 1948. The late Abdul Hameed Sahib served as President of Karnataka state Indian Muslim League till he was called to eternal abode. He was charismatic and had genuine concern for poor and downtrodden. It’s owing to his legacy, the people gather to observe his death anniversary every year. He was secular and peace loving,’ said Suleiman.

 

He hoped that e people contribute towards constructing a memorial building in his city; in acknowledgement of stalwart of Indian history in Karnataka.

 

C Abdul Hameed Sahib’s grandson and Lions Club Mangaluru Centurian chartered president Farhan Sadaat, chartered vice president Abdul Ravoof and community brethren were present on the occasion.

 

Haji Ibrahim recited Dua before beginning the condolence meet.

 

Earlier, prayer meet for the repose of soul of Marhoom C Abdul Hameed Sahib was held at Masjid Zeenath Baksh, Bunder where a large number of people gathered on Thursday morning.
