Manipal: New over head tank to solve water problem in Udupi

Manipal, 25 June 2011: In the 25 crores rupees grant received from the state government on the occasion of the golden anniversary of the Udupi Municipality, the planning for all the projects have been already prepared and for this already technical approval has been received from the government and for the 1st phase rupees 10 crores also is released, said Udupi MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat. He was talking upon conducting “Guddali pooje” for the Municipality over head tank in Manipal on Friday.

 
In these planned projects; the long time in demand Malpe – Padukare bridge work with rupees 7 crores, widening of Gundibail road with 8 crores, Pura Bhavana renovation with rupees 2 crores and Parkala town road widening work with rupees 3 crores have been decided. From the remaining rupees 5 crores other works of the Municipality will be done, said Raghupathi Bhatt.

 

 

By paying up to 98% of the tax the Udupi residents have actively contributed in the development works of the City Corporation, said the MLA. After the construction of the over head tanks in Manipal all the 35 wards of Udupi will have a supply of water 7 days x 24 hours and the water problem will be solved, he said. This is an great achievement of the Udupi Minicipal Corporation, he said.

 
Besides this the plan is conducted to have the water to flow by gravity feed, so there no need for pumping. In this there is no need for the electricity and the maintenance cost will be less for the Municipality, he said. Overall, the Udupi Municipality will be eligible for the National award, he expressed his opinion.

 
The program was presided over by the City Corporation President Kiran Kumar. Jala Mandali Nigam Officer A. L. Anand, City Corporation Vice President Bharathi Chandrashekar, Sthayi Samithi President Naveen Bhandary, Local City Corporation Member Devendra Prabhu were on the dias. City Corporation Paurayuktha Gokuldas Nayak gave introductory speech. Staff Sudhakara welcomed and also compeered the program.

 
This over head water tank construction has been finalized after long time efforts by City Corporation Manipal ward member Devendra Prabhu. The 15 meter high, 10 lakhs leter capacity water tank will be constructed with a cost of rupees 1.12 crores within 6 months. From this tank Vijayanagara, Vidyarathnanagara, Saralebettu areas of Manipal ward will have water supply. Along with this also it will be possible to have the water supply to the neighbouring Badagubettu Grama Panchayath.
