Udupi, 09 June 2011: Well this is not the Jumbo in Mysore, but in Udupi. It was in March 2002, one of the elephants Lakshmeesha of Shrikrishna Mutt caused panic in the whole Udupi city, the whole night trumpeting around, spoiling the sleep of the Rathabeedi residents and Mutt Administration it exhibited the strength all over the city. Later forest department personnel gave anaesthesia to make it unconscious and with the help of another elephant Subhadre, it was brought to control.
But before that Lakshmeesha smashed a Maruthi car which was parked in front of Geetha Mandi, chased the mahout who was looking after and also chased the police who were coming near. Originally Lakshmeesha was from Shiroor Mutt, later Shiroor Shree took care of it in Shiroor Grama at the original Mutt for some time and now it is in Sacrebailu elephant camp.
The reason for Lakshmeesha to cause panic is said to be intoxication, but also people say that the mahout of that time did not take care it affectionately. Currently in the Mutt only one elephant Subhadra is there, which is also sick and wounded now due to hard work and also helpless with the harassment from the mahout, complain some animal lovers.
