Moodubelle: Foundation Stone laid for the new Fish Market

Moodubelle, 08 June 2011: The long awaited remodeling of the Moodubelle Santekatte began with the laying of the foundation stone for the fish market on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 10.30 am in the presence of the Belle Grama Panchayat members, representatives from the Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd. (KFDC), Mangalore, fisherwomen and villagers.

 

Following a brief prayer service, Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Parish Priest of Moodubelle blessed the foundation stones which were laid in the specially dug pit by Mr. Nitin Kumar, Chairman of the Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd.  Mrs. Jacinta Aranha, President of the Belle Grama Panchayat and jointly by Devdas Hebbar, President of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat and Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat. 

 

In his brief speech, Mr. Nitin Kumar said that the KFDC has been sponsoring modern type of fish markets in different villages of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada Districts. So far 12 new fish markets are  being constructed at different places. He emphasized on the need to have hygienic fish markets with proper water supply  and drainage facilities. He further said that KFDC has sanctioned Rs.10 lakhs obtained from the Rashrtiya Krishi Vikas Yojane (RKVY).

 

 

In his message, Mr. Devdas Hebbar pressed upon the need to have a good market in the village and expressed happiness at the beginning of the work on the new fish market at the Santekatte. The Belle Grama Panchayat will be investing Rs. 2 lakhs and Mr. Devdas Hebbar has assured Rs. One lakh from the Udui Taluk Panchayat  for this project.

 

In her address, Mrs. Jacinta Aranha, president of the Belle Grama Panchayat thanked Mr. Nitin Kumar and other officials of the KFDC for sponsoring the fish market project and assured that the project will be completed in time and all facilities will be provided for the fish market.

 

Besides, the panchayat members and other dignitaries, the function of laying of the  foundation stone for the fish market was attended by other officials from KFDC including Mr. V.K. Shetty-Managing Director, Mr. M.D. Prasad-General Manager, p.M. Muddanna-Senior Manager, Mr. Amarnath Jain-project Engineer and Mr. Arun Kumar Hegde-Contractor.

Mr. Harish Shetty, memebr of the Belle Grama Panchayat welcomed the gathering, compeered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
