Udupi, 08 June 2011: If everything goes as per the plan, then a green park similar to Kabban Park, Lal Bagh will emerge in Udupi within one year! said Manjunatha Shetty Asst. Forest Officer of Kundapura Sub Division, while he briefed on the project details of this year at forest department Baindur Sarpamane nursery.

Government has given instructions to construct “Urban Tree Parks” in all the districts of the states. Accordingly in Udupi District, at Udupi Taluk, 111 acre land is identified in Badagubettu for urban tree park. Here varieties of trees similar to Kabban park and Lal bagh will be grown, he said.

Similarly it is already decided to construct “Daivivana”  near Kollur, next to Balkatta Hole. Here as mentioned it the Shastra; Nakshathra vana, Rashi vana, Navagraha vana will be established, he said.

A target is set to plant 15 lakhs various kind of plants in total 886 hectare area in the District this year. From the department already 12 lakhs saplings have been already made ready at 4 nurseries and more 3 lakhs saplings are getting ready. Also, a target is set for plating 6400 various plants on the sides of road at 32 km length.

There should be 33% greenery on earth, but currently it is not so much. In order to fulfil this need the state government is creating the projects to encourage the growers of greenery. Accordingly the saplings are freely distributed to farmers to plant them in their land. Every plant grown by the farmers will be given each Rs. 10, 15 and 20 as encouragement amount in the first 3 years, by the government, he said.

At Vothnene the forest department has 550 acre land, out of which half of the land was requested by Tourism department for Eco tourism, Coastal Security department for their training centre, helipad and Jungle lodges, resorts for their projects, but the forest department did not agree for this, he said.

On this occasion Kundapura zone forest Conservation Officer Sadananda, Baindur zone forest Conservation Officer Brijesh Vinaykumar and Udupi zone forest Conservation Officer Prakash Poojary were present.
