Udupi: Solar Power is the future

Udupi, 30 May 2011: 80,000 villages of our country does not have electricity connection even today. Among the county’s total population 51% of the people live in darkness without electricity. To these villages it is not possible to provide the electricity with the normal source of system. Therefore the solution to all these problems is to produce solar energy, said Dr. H. Harish Hande - Managing Director of Selco Solar Lights Private Limited, Bangalore.
He was speaking in a seminar on “Solar Energy – Future of Mankind” conducted on the occasion of the memorial celebration of Dr. T.M.A. Pai and T.A. Pai at M.G.M. College on Sunday. We must change the assumption that the solar electricity is expensive. The cost of the solar electricity is less than the cost of amount spent on kerosene and candles in a house where there is no electricity, he said.
Dr. N. K. Thingalaya – Former President of Syndicate Bank presided over the function. K. Subrahmanya – CEO of Tata BP Solar Private Limited, M. V. Kamath – Former President of Prasara Bharathi and Muralidhar – Bank Officer were the Chief Guests of the program. Former Officer of Syndicate Bank K. M. Udupa gave introductory speech. On this occasion Hemalatha, the women who manufactures solar energy bulbs in Mangalore and Sheena Nayak of Udupi who uses solar energy from 20 years were felicitated.
