St. John’s Kannada Medium schools celebrate annual day with cultural extravaganza at Shankerpura

Shankerpura, 09 Dec: The Kannada Medium Primary and High School celebrated their Annual School Day along with Old Students Association and entertain the audience with their cultural dance and musical performance on 6th November 2018.
The magical grand cultural evening began with wonderful dance performances by little children of Primary students followed by mind blowing dances by high school students to the famous bollywood tunes.
A brief stage program began with a prayer service. All the honorary guests of the day were invited on the dais namely; Prof. Rajan VN, Principal, St. Mary’s College, Shirva, Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves (Correspondence, St. John’s Educational Institutions), Rev. Fr. Vincent Coello, Principal, St. John’s PU College), Rev. Fr. Royston Fernandes (Asst. Parish Priest), Sr. Winnie D’Souza (HM Primery), Mr. Mark Vas (VP, Parish Council), Mr. Mohandas R. Shetty (HM, High School), Ms. Irine D’Souza (HM Primery Kannada) Ms. Clara Mendonsa (Former HM, High School and Secretary Parish Council), Ms. Simi D’Souza (President 18 Ayog), Ms. Sylvia Castelino (President, Old Students Association), Mr. Sudhir Shetty (Secretary, Old Students Association) and Mr. Nagesh (PTA)
Ms. Sylvia Castelino welcomed the audience and the guests were felicitated with floral bouquets. The annual school reports were presented by Ms. Irine D’Souza for Primary School (Kannada) and Mr. Mohandas R. Shetty (High School Kannada) followed by Annual report of Old Students Association by Mr. Sudhir Shetty.
The prize distribution ceremony was held for all the students who have excelled in academic and sports events. The prizes were distributed by Prof. Rajan VN. Also on the occasion prizes were distributed on behalf of Old students for the SSLC students who scored First Class and distinctions in the last academic year 2017-18).
In his address to the students Prof. Rajan highlighted the value of education and he stressed upon family values and value based education. He said it is not very important we excel in studies but students should focus on employment based education. The teachers and parents must know their interest and field and accordingly they have to give proper education and support them to come up in their life. They also must watch them closely against falling in the wrong hands and develop bad habits. Further he said that a school in a village is like a temple and it must be preserved in the same way. It is not easy to run a education institution. The parents should observe how much work and efforts have been put up by heads of the institution, teachers and the advisors. The students and parents must recognize them and respect them all the time. Finally, he said the parents should provide education to both male and female equally as both are equal in the society.
On the occasion Old Students Members felicitated the well known athletic from Shankerpura Mr. Ashwin Salin who has participated on State, National and International events in athletics and body building competitions. He was felicitated with the traditional shawl, Flower bouquet, and a peta by all the honorary guests on dais. A citation was read by Mr. Naveen Amin highlighting his various sports achievements and it was presented by Prof. Rajan on the occasion.
The prizes also distributed to the winners on Old Students Association sports event held on 2nd December.
Also on the occasion, Miss. Erine Quadras of Shankerpura (Student of St. Mary’s College Shirva) was awarded with a memento by Prof. Rajan for her achievement in weight lifting (Silver medal) at the state level competition.
After the stage program, a hilarious tule drama titled: Otrase Mandebecha was staged by Old students.
A flag hoisting ceremony was held in the morning at the school premises. The chief guest of the Inaugural function was Mr. Satish Kumar (High Way Police Squad) Udupi. He advised parents not to allow students to ride vehicles if they don’t have licence i.e. below 18 years of age and he also advise against use of drugs.
