Kundapura, 19 May 2011: When anyone passes in front of the beautiful bus stop in Nada Grama in Kundapura, it reminds of something. This bus stop has been built in memory of Arun Kumar Shetty, a youth who had many dreams died in the Bajpe plane crash that shocked the whole nation a year ago. Some people build tombs after their close ones pass away. When celebrities and popular actors pass away buildings or parks in their memory will be built. But here his family members have built a bus stop for their village in his name, which gives shade to hundreds of people every day.
About few years ago, Sulyanna Shetty’s family was poor. His son Arun Kumar after completing his education took the responsibility of the family and left to Mumbai and began working in a hotel. Then with the ambitions to improve the family’s financial status, four and half years ago he left to Dubai, earned some money and managed to build a small new house in his village.
Arun Kumar was then 30 years of age and dreaming to get married. At his village his father and brother had seen an alliance for marriage. On 21st May 2010 Arun was coming home from Dubai for his marriage. But the fate had something else for him. Things after that is the tragedy which should not even happen in movies, leave aside the real life. Arun Kumar had dreams for his marriage and to build his own family, but now he is only a memory. In his memory his father built the bus stop spending rupees 2 lakhs from the compensation amount received. Everyone who take shade under it in the village just remember Arun and his simplicity and his good nature.
Arun Kumars family received rupees 10 lakhs as compensation for the death in the plane crash, but no further payment is received. But generous minded Arun Kumar’s family have made something with which the public will always remember him. Leaders and people’s representatives had come to their house and promised many things, but none of that has happened. A job was promised to younger brother Kiran, but that also has become false.
Earlier news was published in media that as per the Montreal agreement 50 to 60 lakhs rupees compensation will be received. But Sulyanna Shetty in Nada Grama do not know anything about it. He knows that money cannot replace his son and if his son was alive he did not need this money. But the support of the house itself has collapsed. The government and the Insurance companies who should have supported at this stage are nowhere.
