Dubai: USWAS Celebrates ‘Shirva Fest–2010’

Dubai, 13 February 2010: Annual parish feast of Shirva was successfully held at Excelsior Creek Hotel in Dubai under the banner of USWAS UAE with much fun fare and with festive mood. The day long program was aptly called “Fest - 2010” and it was a grand success due to the unity and team work of USWAS members.

The day long event began at 11.30 am with Dubai’s leading and most popular compere Uttam Menezes taking charge of day’s events. He introduced Roshan Menezes who assisted him through out the day. Both Uttam and Roshan kept the crowd on their toes and both did justice to their job by wonderfully handling the program till the end.

USWAS members sang the prayer hymn invoking blessing of Saud mai, the patron of Shirva parish. MC Uttam Menezes with inimitable style made everyone’s heart lighter with perfect sense of humor and regularly giving away attractive spot prizes.

Sweet Melodies music troupe lead by Arun Carlo took over the proceedings and Joy, Sheela Carlo and Sharon Rego sung few memorable Konkani songs for the delight of crowd. By 1.30 pm, Nelson took over the charge of stage program. Fr.Freddy Dsouza, spiritual director of Konkani community in Dubai, Chief guest Robert Dsa & Joseph Mathias were called upon the stage along with USWAS president Oscar Rego and secretary Roshan Menezes. President Oscar Rego welcomed everyone while secretary read the annual report of activities. Guest Joseph Mathias congratulated the Shirva parishioners for their commitment and love towards each other and assured his support in the coming years. Chief guest Robert Dsa appreciated the social work done by USWAS team while Fr.Freddy wished every one a happy feast.

Uttam Menezes, who compared the Shirva fest for consecutive 3 years in a row and also compared the ‘Uswas Darbaar’ in Shirva on 1st January 2010 was felicitated by Joseph Mathias. Uttam Menezes thanked everyone who helped him to reach present status and assured Shirva parishioners every support in the coming days. USWAS vice president Dennis Mathias gave vote of thanks.

Sponsors were felicitated with flower bouquets for their continued support to Shirva fest and this event was compered by Roshan Menezes.

Kids from Shirva danced to the tune of ‘Jai Ho’ a bollywood track and ‘maria pithashe’ a goan number while Feat Beat dance troupe mesmerized the audience with their scintillating dance performances.

Shirva’s renowned comedians group “Boskambegaar” enacted a few superb comedy skits and made everyone laugh. ‘Sach Ka Manna’ and ‘Dance Shirva Dance’ were a few of their comedy skits liked by everyone.

After the buffet lunch, Sweet Melodies again rendered few mesmerizing Konkani, Kannada and Hindi songs. Sharon Rego, Sheela Carlo, Vincent Rodrigues, Joy, Canute, Joseph Mathias were able to win the hearts of public with their melodious voice and superb performances.

After the raffle draw, hundreds of people joined the grand baila at the end. Program ended at 6.00 pm. All together it was an enjoyable program which was well organized by the USWAS team.
