Mothers’ Day observed in St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle

Udupi/Moodubelle, 07 Oct 2016: Mothers’ Day was observed in St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle on Thursday, 6 October 2016 holy mass at 10.30 am in the church followed by get-together and lunch in the parish hall. The holy mass was concelebrated by Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Chancellor of Udupi Diocese and Parish Priest of Barkur as the chief celebrant along with Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Moodubelle, Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, Assistant Parish priest, Fr. Alphonse D’Lima, Rector of Minor Seminary and Fr. William Andrade, Rector of Assisi Nilaya.
A brief stage programme was organized in the hall. The priests along with Alphonse Alva-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs. Latha D’Mello, Secretary, Mrs. Monica D’Souza, Presdient of Stree Sanghattan and Mrs. Rita Mathias representing Mothers were on the dais.
Following the prayer song by the church choir, the dignitaries on the dais inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
Mrs. Meera Lobo introduced Mrs. Rita Mathias.
In her message, Mrs. Rita Mathias said that mothers play an important role in the family and society. They should come forward and contribute to the society in a constructive manner without any fear of criticism.
In his address, Fr. Valerian Mendonca explained the sacrifices that the mother does in order to raise and maintain the family.
Fr. Clement Mascarenhas said that on the occasion of the observation of Mothers’ Day he visited Mrs. Eliza D’Souza of St. Paul II Ward who is quite old and has been bedridden for a long time.
Some of the mothers presented a dance under the leadership of Mrs. Jyothi Lobo.
Mrs. Meera Lobo conducted some spot games for the mothers.
Mrs. Monica D’Souza welcomed the guests and the gathering, Ms. Teresa Lobo proposed the vote of thanks, Fr. William Andrade recited the grace before the meal and Mrs. Hilda D’Souza compered the programme.
The programme ended with lunch that was prepared with the cooperation of volunteers from Stree Sanghattan.
Around 450 mothers from the parish participated in the Mothers’ day celebration.
