Mangaluru: SAC hosts Mangalore Varsity Joyce Pais Memorial Basketball Championship Trophy

Mangaluru, 30 Aug 2015: St Aloysius College (Autonomous) here hosted the Mangalore University inter-collegiate Joyce Pais memorial basketball championship trophy for women here on Friday August 28.

 
The campus minister Fr Francis D’Almeida SJ conveyed best wishes and blessed the playing teams.

 
Joseph Saldanha, chairman of Joyce Pais memorial basketball tournament Committee highlighted the dedicated career of late Joyce Pais as a renowned sportsperson of the undivided Dakshina Kannada district.

 
Gerald Santosh D’Souza thanked Joyce Pais memorial tournament Committee for contributing the Mangalore University inter-collegiate basketball championship trophy.

 
Fr Denzel Lobo SJ, Rector of St Aloysius College Institutions inaugurated the basketball tournament and briefed how the game of basketball has made many stalwarts in the society.

 

 
Joseph Saldanha and Jane Sequeira of Joyce Pais memorial Committee unveiled the newly-donated trophy and handed over the trophy to Fr Denzel Lobo SJ.
 
 
Fr Denzel Lobo handed over the trophy to Dr Gerald Santosh D’Souza, assistant director of physical education, Mangalore University as rolling basketball championship.

 
The College physical director Donnet D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The basketball player Keisha proposed the vote of thanks. Laveena compered the programme.

The first match was played between St Agnes College and Madav Pai Memorial College, Manipal.  St Agnes College won the match with 21 – 18 points.

 
Top scorers: Neha of St Agnes College with 14 points and Soubhagyalaxmi of Madhav Pai Memorial College, Manipal with 16 points.
