Bangalore: Yogish Bhat tipped to be Dy Speaker

Bangalore, 08 January 2011: Four-time MLA N Yogish Bhat is likely to be the next Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.

 

 

The BJP zeroed in on Bhat’s name for the post which has now been vacant for the last one year. Bhat is MLA from Mangalore south.

 

The Legislative Assembly Secretariat on Friday announced the calender of events for election of the Deputy Speaker. January 10 is the last date for filing nomination papers and elections, if required, will be held the next day. Bhat said he will be filing his nomination papers on Monday.

 

The post fell vacant after incumbent Deputy Speaker K G Bopaiah was elected unopposed as Speaker in December last year.

 

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah said the party is yet to decide whether it will be fielding its candidate to take on Bhat. “We will speak to the JD(S) and take a final decision,” he said.
