Student prevented from flying due to his Bhatkal origin
Bhatkal, 11 Jun 2015: In a shocking incident, a Muslim student hailing from Bhatkal was barred from flying to Dubai at Bangalore International Airport on Wednesday, June 10.
The fault of the student was that he hails from Bhatkal, a place which now carries the taint of being the native of Indian Mujahideen founder Yasin Bhatkal.
The student identified as Arsalan Khazi was all set to leave to Dubai by 4:35 am flight to spend his vacation with his parents on a visiting visa.
It is believed that the authorities had asked Arsalan if he knew Yasin Bhatkal, before confiscating his passport. The immigration officers at airport held back Khazi on the pretext of inquiry and returned his passport after the flight departed.
Khazi who was shocked and saddened with the behaviour of airport officials , later explained the incident to his parents who then booked fresh tickets for him on Thursday, June 11.
Arsalan is a student of Jamia Islamia (madrasa) in Bhatkal.
