Mangaluru: CASK Eye Camp at Badyar Draws Impressive Response

Mangaluru, 17 Nov 2014: The eye camp held at Fr L M Pinto Hospital, Badyar, near Guruvayanakere in Beltangady taluk, organized by Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK) on Sunday November 16 drew an impressive response with 230 patients being examined by a team of eye specialists from Father Muller Medical College Hospital, here.
The camp was part of the outreach programme, an offshoot of the centenary year of CASK, concluded with the valedictory function here on Sunday September 22, with the Vice President of India Dr Hamid Ansari presiding, is the second such camp. The first was held at Holy Cross Hospital, Chikmagaluru, where 30 patients were referred for surgery or specialized care at Father Muller Medical College Hospital and 138 persons were given prescriptions and spectacles @ free of cost to the patients.
Meanwhile, at the Badyar camp, 26 patients were identified for further treatment/surgery and the rest for spectacles – all free of charge.
The four-member team of ophthalmologists from Father Muller Medical College Hospital headed by Dr Vinay P G, got down to work in their specially set up consulting rooms on Sunday at 9.00am without any formal inauguration ceremony and worked for 4 hours without a break. They were ably backed up by the efficient nursing staff of Fr L M Pinto Hospital, under close supervision of Hospital Administrator Sr Premlata of the Bethany Congregation, which runs the hospital.
CASK president Captain John Prasad Menezes and honorary secretary Mario Saldanha facilitated at Badyar camp on behalf of CASK.
