Yongsters Nakre, Mangalore Konkans and Karnataka Sangha Sharjah won ‘Mayura Cup’

Sharjah, 13 November 2010: Karnataka Sangha Sharjah had planned this day being the perfect day to hold an open tournament of Throw ball, Volleyball , Kabaddi and tug of war inviting all Kannadiga teams of U.A.E at the Wonderers Club in Sharjah. Karnataka Sangha Sharjah are the pioneers to start the sports activities in Sharjah Wonderers Club grounds. Large crowds gathered to witness the best teams fight each other to clinch the top honour and they were nail biting finishes. Mangalore Konkans managed to win over Jashan Dubai in Ladies Throwball match in well fought match while the Younsters Nakre took away Volley ball championship from Saifa Friends in straight two set finish and the host Karnataka Sangha Sharjah defeated Bhatkal dubai to lift the Kabaddi trophy.

 

 

The inaugural ceremony began at 9.30 AM with Mr. Ganesh Rai making his early morning announcement inviting all the teams (16 teams in Men’s Volley ball and 7 teams in Throw ball, 8 teams in Men’s kabaddi and 4 teams each in Men’s and women’s tug of war ), to form a line around the Karnataka map in front of the dais. The president of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah Mr. Noel D’Almeida escorted the chief guests Mr. T. Ramanna, secretary Asian Throw ball Federation & Throw ball federation of India who has come all the way from India ,Mr. N. Damodaran & Mr.S.K. Shukla the executives from Bank of Baroda and Mr. Mark Denis D’Souza. Mr. Mark Denis D’Souza inaugurated the sports and called upon the all the team participants to show the spirit of the games and maintain the dignity of sportsmanship. Also conveyed the wishes of Rajyothsva Diwal and Eid, Earlier Mr. Noel D ‘Almeida president of Sharjah Karnataka Sangha expressed his thoughts and thanked everyone who contributed to organize this maga event.

All league matches were completed before lunch time and after noon was spared for the much awaited Semi finals and finals between the best teams.

 

The afternoon vegetarian lunch buffet was arranged by Shiv Sagar Restaurant, Bur Dubai.. Also the snacks counters were serving the delicious food throughout the day.

 

 

The prominent personalities and sponsors including Mr. Hebbar, Mr. T. Ramanna, Mr. Alfred Vaz, Mr. K.V Mally, Mr.James Mendonca, Mr. Sheka Shetty, Mr. Mark Denis D’Souza, Mr. Santhosh Nazareth and other were present for the concluding ceremony .Mr. Uttam menezes master of ceremony of the tournament  thanked all sponsors, well wishers, media representatives, participating teams ,the referees and were felicitated on this occassion.
Sudhakar Alva, Satish Shetty, Mrs. Clara, Moideen ,Ahraf, Joy, Ramcy, Melwyn Lewis ,Ganapathi Bhat and Girish were officiated the tournament in a excellent manner. He also thanked members of organizing committee and finally to all spectators without their support the tournament would not have been possible. He also rendered special thanks to Gilbert Aranha for ably conducting and emceeing the whole day tournament and he received a big round of applause.

 

Also the day was fulfilled fun with the spectacular commentary by Vinod Shetty Udupi, Afzal and Melwyn Lewis.

 

Raffle ticket draw was held and prizes were distributed to the winners. Earlier unsold tickets were auctioned and the some of the well wishers bought all the tickets in the auction.

 

At the concluding ceremony the trophies were distributed to winning teams and also individual trophies were given to all finalists by the sponsors and prominent personalities.

Best Attacker: Tauseef (Ace Spikers)
Best Booster: Guru (Youngster nakre)

Throw ball individual trophies:
Best all rounder: Shyamala Poojary(Jashan Dubai)
Best Smasher: Mable D’Souza (Mangalore Konkans)
Best Receiver: Precilla Pinto (Mangalore Konkans)

Kabaddi individual trophies:
Best all rounder: Raheem (Karnataka Sangha Sharjah)
Best Catcher: Basha (Bhatkal Dubai)
Best Rider: Razak (Karnataka Sangha Sharjah)

 

Karnataka Sangha Sharjah has arranged glittering trophies for the winners and the runners-up. Other than that the winners were felicitated with cash prizes of Dhs.1,000/- each and runners-up with Dhs.750/- each.  All the team members were individually honoured with cups and plaques.

 

Various other special games were conducted for children to keep them busy during tournament and also gave away the special prizes.Also the spectators and team member were honored with some special give away.

 

It is really appreciable the spirits of all the members of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah who have put in all their efforts behind the successful tournament under the leadership of Noel D’Almeida.The whole day the events concluded around 8.30 pm.

Congratulations to all winners and participated teams. It has been well organized under the leadership of Mr. Noel D Almeida. Though the weather was bit hot, everyone enjoyed evry bit the games. Year by year the standard of the games getting better and better. Every year i can see almost same teams winning the trophies. I call upon all other teams to put your efforts to change the scenario. Well done Karnataka sangha Sharjah.
