Mangalore, 30 Sep 2014: The city unit of ABVP staged a protest condemning the attack on students by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Srikala and other policemen on the nursing students without valid reasons here on Monday September 30.
The protesters held a rally in the premises of Wenlock Hospital to city police commissioner’s office here on Monday against police action.
Addressing the protest, nursing student Rama Madhav said, ‘The victims Vinay and Rajiv were assaulted without any concrete reason. ASI Shrikala with her staff entered the college premises without the permission of the principal. She also used abusive language towards the students. One of the students was handicapped. The students were admitted to hospital,’ said Rama Madhav.
Nursing students of the college also alleged that police entered the college premises without the permission of principal or college authorities and assaulted students while they were playing in the college premises on Saturday September 27.
ABVP district organizing secretary Jayaprakash said, ‘ASI Srikala and her staff have assaulted the students. When we approached the police authorities, they refused to file a case. Hence, today we are submitting a memorandum to the city police commissioner to take proper action. Instead of attacking the innocents, let her take action on those who misuse girls’ photos on facebook and on those who commit sexual assault. If we do not get justice, we will hold a massive protest,’ said Jayaprakash.
The city police commissioner R Hitendra assured the students that DySP will inquire regarding the incident and action will be taken.
ABVP city secretary Jayesh P K and others were present.
