Konkani Kutam Bahrain celebrates Monti Fest

Bahrain, Sep 15, 2014: Konkani Kutam, the premier association of Mangalorean community in Bahrain celebrated the feast of Nativity of Mary (Monti Fest) at Papillion hall, here on Friday September 12.

 

A large number of Mangalorean Catholics gathered to celebrate the birth of Mother Mary in the traditional customs of blessing the new paddy-sheaves, children honoring Infant Mary by showering flowers and vegetarian lunch served on plantain leaves.

 

 

The programme started on Friday at 12.00pm and children walked in procession carrying variety of flowers singing the hymn: Sokkad Sngatha Melyam.

 

Fr Freddie conducted prayer service of Monti Fest celebrations.

 

Fr Freddie in his message congratulated Konkani Kutam for keeping up the Mangalorean Catholic spirit alive in Bahrain. He also said that it is the feast of celebrating family values, love and togetherness.

 

Konkani Kutam Bahrain convener Henry D’ Almeida recalled the hard work and efforts put in by Mangalorean forefathers in building and nurturing family values.  He stressed that Konkani Kutam will work closely with the community in promoting the same family values and tradition customs and practices.

 

The sugarcanes was distributed to all children during this occasion.

 

A variety cultural show was presented to enthrall both young and old alike.  Some of the best talent of Mangalorean community enthralled the gathering by dance, skit and singing performances.

 

Youngsters Jovita D’Silva, Evita Castelino, Ashel Castelino and Clarina D’Costa entertained with beautiful dance numbers.

 

An innovative fusion dance was performed by Anu, Davina, Roshan and Evita, Muriel, Sandra, Shanthi and Vanitha sang Konkani song.

 

Sujay, George and Ajay performed a rib-tickling comedy skit.

 

 

Konkani Kutam prominent member Ronald Fernandes proposed vote of thanks.

 

Walter Dantis compered the programme.

 

The sumptuous vegetarian meal was later served on plantain leaves to all.
