Mangalore: Murder accused nabbed after 13 years from TN

Mangalore, Aug 12, 2014 : DCIB police arrested a murder accused who was absconding since 13 years in Tamil Nadu.

 

Addressing the media persons at his office here on Monday August 11, SP Sharanappa said that the arrested has been identified as forty-seven-year-old Vishwanat Shetty alias Panchami Vishwa alias Raju, son of Monappa Shetty, resident of Antara, Puttur  taluk.

 

Thirteen years ago, Vishwanat Shetty was accused of murdering VishwanathaRai alias Baddi Vishwa at the latter’s house and taken the dead body in a car to Honnavar, Uttar Kannada and dumped besides the road.  Meanwhile, he returned in the same car and parked near Kadri Park, here and fled to TN.   The police after initial probe suspended the case without success in finding breakthrough.

 

 

The police personnel attached to Uppinangady station along with DCIB police travelled to TN on a sure tip-off, and managed to nab Vishwanat Shetty alias Raju at Kadambur bus stop, Satyamangala taluk, Erode district, with the help of TN police. 

 

Vishwanat Shetty after fleeing to TN initially worked as a driver in a hospital at Bhavani.  Later, he worked as righter in the farm owned by one of the doctors of same hospital.  He developed contacts with locals and was running a chit-fund company as Raj Finance at Kadandur, on the strength of his new credentials as Raju. 

 

Backdrop of case

 

Vishwanat alias Raju was the manager of a finance company owned by Vishwanath Rai, which was founded in 1999. The firm was doing a decent business. Vishwanat Rai trusted his manager Vishwanat Raju and both used to discuss the business issues at the former’s house in Uppinangady.

 

On June 7, 2001, the duo had met in the same house and a small quarrel that started with some misunderstanding grew violent and ended in the murder of Vishwanat Rai.

 

The operation was carried out at the instruction of SP Sharanappa, by DCIB sub-inspector Savitr Tej, Uppnangady rural police sub-inspector Suresh Kumar, DCIB assistant sub-inspector Sanjeev Purusha, police personnel Chandra Addur, Palanivelu, Uday Rai, Iqbal, Vasu Naika and Uppinangady station staff Lakshneesh.

 

SP Sharnappa issued appreciation letters to all personnel for their persistent efforts in nabbing the old criminal.
