Udupi: The Udupi district police have cracked a sensational murder case that occurred on January 6 at Hykady, near Hebri.
Superintendent of Police Pravin Pawar told presspersons on Friday that Suresh Prabhu, a native of Hebri and an Associate Professor at Hassan Medical College, had complained on January 7, 2010 that his wife Bhagirathi had become unconscious owing to a snake bite on their way to Hykady.
Background
She was declared brought dead at the Government Hospital in Udupi.
However, with the autopsy report mentioning a few injuries on her body, Bhagirathi’s brother became suspicious.
Based on his complaint, Investigating Officer Ganesh Hegde of the District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) took up the case and concluded that Bhagirathi had been murdered.
Final crack
It was finally found that Dr. Prabhu and Bhagirathi had a strained relationship.
Dr. Prabhu had twice hatched conspiracies to eliminate his wife without success.
In his third attempt, he bought snake poison from someone and injected her with it.
After that, he lodged a false complaint to mislead the police. Five persons, including Prabhu, have been arrested.
