Gandhi Jayanthi College Campus Cleaning Programme organized at Milagres College

Udupi, 02 Oct: On 2 October NSS unit celebrated a national holiday to honor the 154th birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, “Father of The Nation", as Gandhi Jayanthi.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, a College Campus Cleaning Program was organized at Milagres College Kallianpur on October 2, 2023, to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s commitment to cleanliness and hygiene. The event aimed to promote a sense of responsibility toward maintaining a clean and green environment among the college students and staff.
The program commenced at 8:00 AM with a brief inaugural ceremony.
Dr. Vincent Alva, the college principal, inaugurated the event by garlanding a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and emphasizing the importance of cleanliness in our daily lives. Approximately 100 students, faculty members, and support staff participated in the program. All participants were provided with cleaning equipment, including brooms, dustpans, and garbage bags.
Participants were divided into teams and assigned specific areas within the campus for cleaning.
Cleaning activities included picking up litter, sweeping, and maintaining garden areas. Special attention was given to cleaning and organizing the college library, classrooms, and administrative rooms.
The Gandhi Jayanthi College Campus Cleaning Program served as a meaningful way to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and promote cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental awareness within our college community. It instilled a sense of responsibility among students and staff to maintain a clean and green campus and will serve as a foundation for future initiatives aimed at sustainability and cleanliness.
During the event, volunteers conducted informative sessions on waste segregation and the importance of eco-friendly practices. Short speeches were delivered to remind everyone of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of cleanliness, simplicity, and sustainability.
The NSS officers, Mrs. Anupama Jogi and Ganesh Nayak, the convener of an eco club, Mrs. Rekha U, and the Public Relation Officer (PRO) Ravinandan Bhat were present.
Ms. Neha of the second BCA proposed the vote of thanks and compered the programme.
