Railways to introduce diabetic meals in premier trains

New Delhi, 27 July 2010: Railways have decided to offer sugar-free and starch-free food for diabetics undertaking train journeys. The programme is being launched on a small scale in just a few trains to begin with as a pilot project before it is extended to other trains.
According to IRCTC, looking after catering service, the new facility would be launched in Kolkata-bound Rajdhani and Duronto trains shortly.
The move comes in the wake of the new catering policy unveiled by Railways, according to which catering service will be looked after by Railways instead of its subsidiary IRCTC.
Orders for the diabetic meals can be placed at the time of ticket booking. Diabetic menu is not a completely new idea. Diabetic passengers travelling in AC-I in some Rajdhani trains already enjoy the facility in a limited scale.
