Udupi: Independ Day celebration at Pangala

Udupi/Shankerpura, 17 Aug 2013: The 67th Independence day was celebrated at St. John’s church compound soon after the mass on Thursday amidst a large crowd. It was also a day when the Feast of Assumption of Mother Mary was celebrated with a concelebrated mass prior to hoisting the National Flag.
Soon after the mass, all community members gathered at the Ashoka Chukra situated at the St. John’s Academy. A well-known community leader and parishioner Dr. Edward Lobo welcomed the audience and also welcome the Chief Guest of the day Rev. Fr. Lawrence Mendonsa.
Rev. Fr. Lawrence Mendonsa hoisted the National Flag on the occasion and National Anthem was sung by all present on the occasion. Rev. Fr. Lawrence Mendonsa and Parish Priest Dr. Rev. Leslie D’Souza highlighted the significance of the Independence day and the sacrifices done by our great leaders to achieve the independence from British Raj. They also advise the children today to live a worthy life based on the principles set by our great leaders and become the true citizens of our nation.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Parish Secretary Ms. Flavia Menezes. Sweets were distributed at the end of the celebrations.
