  • Based on response in Mangalore, the centres will be increased, says Minister

Mangalore, 10 June 2010: MangaloreOne, the ’one stop shop’ concept wherein multiple government departments and private companies services will be delivered under one roof was inaugurated at Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) building on Wednesday by Minister for Urban Development Suresh Kumar.

Addressing the gathering, he said that the concept has been a huge success in Bangalore and based on the response in Mangalore, the centres will be increased.

“There is absolutely no dearth of funds. We are ready to open up 10 such centres in Mangalore if demand comes from Mangalore City Corporation,” Suresh Kumar said and added that Karnataka ranks first in the country in e-Governance and this centre is one of the project under the same.

He said that there are 65 such centres in the State including Bangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Dharwad, Shimoga, Gulbarga, Tumkur and Mangalore, of which 60 centres have already been opened.

e-Governance Department Principal Secretary M N Vidyashankar said that the MangaloreOne centre has been put up at a cost of Rs 85 lakh and each centre intends to host over 43 services as handled in Bangalore.

e-governance in 125 municipal bodies

Presiding over the programme, MLA N Yogish Bhat said that out of 223 municipal bodies in the State, e-governance has been implemented in 125 bodies.
In 2,300 Government offices in the State, 90 per cent e-Governance works have been completed and it will be functional in full scale by 6 months.
Home Minister Dr V S Acharya, District incharge Minister Krishna J Palemar, Department of e-governance CEO B S Ravindra, Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj, Mayor Rajani Dugganna, Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, Municipal Commissioner Dr K N Vijayprakash, MP Nalin Kumar among others were present on the occasion.

MangaloreOne

Three centres of MangaloreOne have been opened at Corporation Central office Lalbaugh, Commercial Shopping complex of Mangalore City Corporation, Kadri and at Deshabhaktha K S Rao Memorial Building, Bautagudde.

Services

MangaloreOne centres will have services of electricity bill payment, Cellone mobile bill payment and sales of passport applications from the day of inauguration to start with but eventually an array of services including payment of water bill, mobile bills, property tax payment, LIC premium payment, registration of passports, issue of birth and death certificates, renewal of monthly bus passes, KSRTC/ private bus ticket booking, domestic flight ticket booking, railway ticket booking, public grievance redressal, new water connections and many more.

Timings

The services will be available from 8 am to 8 pm, all 365 days, expect on those days specially declared as holiday by e-Governance department. Citizens will have choice of pay modes-cash/cheques/DD/credit/debit cards. Services will be delivered free of cost to citizens except for certain categories like railway ticket booking, PUC services etc.

Disappointed

As District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar took the dais to address the gathering, Congress Member in Mangalore City Corporation Harinath interrupted him to make a point that Congress members were disappointed as none of the opposition party MLAs and leaders were invited for the programme.

He also reminded that Minister Suresh Kumar, during his last visit, about an year ago had declared that he would not attend any of Mangalore City Corporation programmes till he gets the honourarium of Corporators hiked.

Responding to the same, MLA Yogish Bhat clarified that invitations were sent to all the leaders irrespective of the party and as far as the issue honourarium is concerned, the proposal is in its last stage and it will be passed soon.

This is great news. The services offered and especially the timings 8.00am to 8.00pm are impressive. This service can be used anywhere, at our choice instead of waiting in long que at the counters. Also this will open up more job opportunities. They should open more like these.
