Mumbai: Governor calls for involving youth, citizens in fight against terrorism

Mumbai, 08 April 2010: The Governor of Maharashtra K. Sankaranarayanan has said that terrorism is acquiring ‘cancerous proportions’ and affecting India andcountries of the world. Calling for a global consensus against terrorism, he expressed the need to involve citizens in the fight against terrorism. Mentioning that the support of ordinary people iscrucial in curbing terrorism, he called upon the Scout and Guide movement to prepare the mindset of the youth, students and citizens infighting terrorism.
The Governor was speaking after being formally given oath as the Patron of the Maharashtra State Bharat Scouts and Guides at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Tuesday (6 April).

Addressing the officer-bearers of the Maharashtra State Bharat Scouts and Guides, the Governor complimented the organisation for being thefirst among all states in the country in terms of highest membership of scouts and guides. He appealed the State chapter of the movement to also inculcate civic sense and nationalist feeling among the youth of the country.
The Commissioner of Scouts and Guides in Maharashtra Bhai Nagarale told the Governor that the scouting movement started by Lord Baden-Powell in 1907 has spread to 180 countries of the world having membership of 40 million. He said Maharashtra accounts for 14 lakh members out of India’s membership of 44 lakh.
