Udupi, Mangalore get heavy rains

Udupi / Mangalore, 05 August 2011: Rains continued to lash heavily in the district on Thursday with Moodbidri receiving the highest rainfall of 102.2 mm followed by Bantwal receiving 89.8 mm rainfall.
Sullia received 55.8 mm, Mangalore taluk received 51.2 mm, Belthangady received 43.4 mm and Puttur received 38.4 mm rainfall. The district average rainfall was 55.7 mm.
The water-level in Netravati River in Bantwal is 5 metres while the water-level in Kumaradhara river in Uppinangady was 17 metres.
A house belonging to one Nandu Kanchan of Kotathattu village in Udupi was damaged after lightning struck the house. Nandu Kanchan has sustained minor injuries.
Another house collapsed at Parampalli village in Kota. The house belongs to Arun Hegde. In Kodavur village, two damages have been reported. The house of Gulabi Narasimha collapsed due to heavy rain and house belonging to Rajani Girish was partially damaged when a tree fell on it. In Heradi village, the walls of the house belonging to Krishna Naika were damaged.
Udupi district received 77.26 mm rainfall since the last 24 hours. Udupi taluk received 52.6 mm rain, Karkala taluk registered 58.6 mm rainfall and Kundapur taluk received heavy rain of 120.6 mm on Thursday.
