Mangalore: Youth held for posting morphed photo on web

Mangalore, 31 March 2010: Dakshina Kannada recorded its first cyber crime after a 25-year-old youth from Kolkata was arrested by city police on Tuesday for posting nude pictures of a girl on website.
A post graduate, Debraj Sen Gupta was arrested under the Information Technology (IT) Act 2000, based on the complaint of a 23-year-old girl employed in a private firm. Gupta son of a public sector employee R Sen Gupta, allegedly nursed a grudge against the complainant who had remained “unresponsive” to feelings.
According to Kavoor police, the youth seeking revenge hacked her e-mail account and had forwarded her morphed nude photographs to all her friends in the mailing list.
He had even uploaded the obscene pictures on a porn website.
The complainant was shocked on finding her nude pictures doing the rounds in internet had lodged a complaint with Kavoor police in February.
The police who were initially clueless about the hacker finally tracked him at his home in New Town in Badwarn district -- about 300 km from Kolkata.
Debraj Sen Gupta if convicted under the IT Act 2000 would face a maximum imprisonment term of three years or a fine of Rs two lakh for hacking into an email account and an additional imprisonment of five years and a fine of one lakh rupee for circulating obscene pictures.
