Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, 22 August 2011: Stepping up its attack on the ruling UPA, the main opposition BJP on Sunday demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s immediate resignation for ”miserably” failing to eradicate corruption in the country.

Addressing the party’s steering committee meeting here, its senior most leader Lal Krishna Advani said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should quit and hold fresh elections, as the ruling alliance has lost confidence of the people.

The veteran BJP leader alleged that the Prime Minister was not aware of the problems of the comman man and if he is directly elected in a poll, (now elected to Rajya Sabha) he would have known the sufferings of them.

“This government is totally corrupt. The Prime Minister has a great reputation of being an economist. But the common man is shocked to find that ever since this government has come to power, prices have been going up and up, " Advani was quoted as saying.

The NDA working chairman alleged the UPA government was mired in scams and said Dr Manmohan Singh had failed to sack corrupt ministers from his Cabinet.

A series of scams have come to light in the last few years for which UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister should be held responsible, he said.

“It is wrong to say that the UPA government has sent corrupt leaders to jail,” Advani said, adding that former Telecom Minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi were put behind bars because of the CAG report and judiciary action.

He said the UPA Government had not taken any concrete steps on the corrupt Ministers earlier but now took action against them only due to the initiative taken by the apex court.

Unless and until people stop this practice , this corruption cannot be eradicated.
