Good information on train connectivity and cooperation in the energy field. Because of Indira Gandhi Bangladesh got its existence and stability. Looks like current generation has forgotten the help and is getting into religion fundas and Indian ethnic population over there is declining. Any country that goes heavily behind religion than value-based governance, its future is bleak. Ture, they highly depend on Indian food supplies. They also have their own natural flood situations at times without seeing any rain...law of gravity...water flows from higher to lower level and then makes its way to sea.
True Bangladesh kept good relationship with India and Chaina but annoyed US. Bangladesh is traditionally poor due to lack of education and infrastructure. It is not an easy task for Nobel laureate Yunus to take them to the shore!

You left first Tulu Dynasty who are Lunar descendents from Mahabharata times. They ruled Tulunad since 2dn centuruy CE. But strange and mystery is until 4th century the emperors name and Tulu Shasana is still hidden either by Govt of Karnataka to keep Kannada pride or destroyed by British. Because Sangam Tamil literature talks about existence of Tulu Desam Tulunad country) even before BCE years and Halmidi in 5th century CE which was in Kannada premature stage ( Rather 90% Sanskrit Tulu Tamil) mentioned about Tulunad existence

Mob culture has brought paradigm shift in Bangaladesh governance. She brought stability to Bangaladesh. 15 years is a long period and people are probably bored. Bangadesh is not an easy country to govern. Hope Noble Peace Laureate may bring some stability to BD. BD has lots of manufacturing and exports these days. Religion fanatism, Capitalism and corruption is not helping any better just like several Asian countries. Thanks Philip for the real time article.

Thank you for the nice write up on BD latest issue. It is short and to the point.

I would slightly differ with the author with another view point. Ms. Hasina could remain in power for a longer period at a stretch which none of their leaders could do, mainly because of her mode of operandi. Statistics showed It helped the country to boost their economy. A mob fury was possible to happen at any time as per BD tradition which Ms. Hasina managed to delay. The reservation issue was something Ms. Hasina didn’t wanted to alter because of its sensitivity on vote bank. The minority votes are too sensitive and who will touch those issues that will hamper their own existence..! I have a feeling that Ms. Hasina on exile is her own script. By doing so, she has kept those minority votes intact.
It is just a mob fury. It is not a civil war. There are no arms involved. Looting stores are common under such circumstances, let it be in USA or in BD. Peace will be restored but the nation’s economy will suffer a bit.

It is good of Mr Mudartha not to jump on the government slogan bandwagon and present the facts un coloured. Since the corruption is already in the system and "you scratch my back and...." works favourably for both, media too is obliging. Mr. Mudartha is unbiased is what I like best.

Your articles on the latest budget convey the real picture. We, the middle class, actually look at each budget presentation as a subject for discussion. Sometimes we feel we are discussing on a matter we are not involved.

Now I read that on LTCG taxing has an option for going 12.5% or 20%. More guidelines are awaited.

Couple of lines on Wayanad disaster. You know, it was raining heavily since May middle. Rainfall accelerated further on 28th morning onwards. It was raining continuously. Anyone with common sense and has witnessed the 2018 and 2019 should have anticipated that a big magnitude landslide is imminent and precautionary measures should have been in place. But no one bothered or they were waiting for the disaster to happen. A major incident like this gives lots of opportunities to them.
It is not about ensuring safety and a better living conditions to the citizens but grabbing power, money and authority.

I know you have already initiated drafting on Bangladesh current issue. Waiting for it…

Thank you for making this chapter shorter. It makes the reading comfortable.

True, for sveral areas budget has once again allocated chillar (peanut) support. Middle class is most affected. Making money in real estate and shares attracts more tax. They have shown alternatives. Very complicated to understand exmptions or applications. Even hardcore supporters of the regime has started feeling the heat. Majority tax payers are annoyed to large extent that they do not get benefits be it vehicles, roads, street lights and health support. I would attribute all the frustration to high level corruption and lack of dedication by the operational machinery. Thanks Philip for detailed focus on the subject.

Nandanan, Thrissur
31/07/2024 16:29:09

Thank you Sir, for including my few lines with your article in preface.

“Taxes and more taxes” that is the message I am getting in every budgets. Whenever Central Government gives some tax cut, the State Government budget will take it into their treasury. Common man never gets it.
New schemes are announced in every budget. Is there any mechanism for common man to know the implementation of such announced schemes, apart from the “right to know” window.? For example, last year budget announced free installation of 1 cr solar power units across the country. FM can, before the new budget presentation, give a brief on the actuals of last year’s budget on public interest., at least on those schemes.

Whatever may be happening in the country, the stock market is rocketing. It gives an impression that our economy is doing good.

I would suggest to the Author that the chapters may be made shorter. People do not devote their time on reading these days. Shorter the write up, higher the number of people who will like to read the material.

True, Rahul Gandhi has emerged stronger. If not Mayavathi s vote share...their position could ve been stronger. Importntly people did not like someone imposing himself near God. Hope strong opposition can dilute ED, IT power on opposition and check on ever rising corruption level. we need some improvement in the system that plugs corruption as much as possible so that tax payer gets better deal towards quality of life outside home and compulsory bribe slab reduces. Impartial analysis with proper facts.

It s unfortunate that our political views are merely circling around Modi.
There are only two perspectives when discussing politics. One is pro Modi, and the other is anti-Modi.
I don t think we ll be able to get away from this chakravyooham any time soon. As of now, he is the most trusted leader in India. This position is likely to remain in his hands for many years until a new strong leadership emerges in the opposition. I hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Good analysis. True,
The Godi media continues to peddle the false, people started realising the mischief and their TRP is taking a hit. Fortunately there are matured voices like Yogendra Yadav, Ravish, Dhruv Rati and many more gaining confidence and fearless to some extent. Brand Modi is certainly losing sheen. In this year’s election, Modi acted like a crybaby. He lied and lied and lied to the public just to seek votes from his blind believers. All uneducated voters and some brainwashed people voted for him. Truth never came out of his religion glued mouth! For everything it was Hindu, Hindu and Hindu. He saw everything in his Hindu eyes and wanted to convert India into a Hindu nation and utterly failed to do so! Hope he will realize the truth and change his thoughts of lies and realize the truth of Indian peace lovers, truth believers and democracy embraces. May God bless India and her democratic values as in its constitution.

Excellent article…! Yet, it is partly biased against Modi.
The election was a contest between BJP and the rest of all regional and national parties, left and the right wings. Yet the opposition failed to make the magic figure of 272, in cumulative. Modi gets yet another term to form the government even after the entire northern minority votes went in favour of Congress this time which was pocketed in the previous two elections. Point is Modi retained the position even without the crucial minority voters. I liked it.
The difference with BJP is that they are less hypocrite than the Congress. BJP is fearless to state what is wrong is wrong and needs correction. Congress can never do that believing that by doing so they might lose the minority votes.
To note this time is that BJP has won some minority votes from Southern India. In my constituency, Suresh Gopi has been elected by a huge margin winning 125,000 votes more than his 2019 numbers. These are votes from minority segments.
I would like to see Congress gets the next election in 2029, if not before that, because four terms in a row is a shame for democracy. But the Congress has to start working from now smarter than BJP.
