Udupi: MLC Ivan D’Souza visits Free Eye Camp of RCI - Shankarapura

Udupi, 30 Jul 2014: Rotary Club International (RCI) and Rotary Trust - Shankerpura in collaboration with Prasad Natralaya Super Speciality Eye Hospital, Udupi and district health and family welfare Society, and Prevention of blindness department and in association with Rotaract Club – Subash Nagar, organised free eye camp at Rotary Centenary Bhavan, Shankarapura, near here on Sunday July 27.
Dr B. Narayana Bhat and family, Biliyaru, (USA) were the sponsors of camp in memory of his parents the late Krishnaveni and ovinda Bhat.
B Padmanabha Bhat inaugurated the camp here on Wednesday morning.
Udupi district prevention of blindness department secretary Dr Nityanand Nayak was the chief guest of the occasion.
Dr Nityanand in his address advised the patients the importance of camp and complete process and benefits. He lauded RCI for their selfless service to mankind.
RCI – district assistant governor M G Nagendra and RCI – zonal Lieutenant district Dr Gururaj K were present at the dais.
MLC Ivan D’Souza and his wife Dr Kavitha arrived at Rotary Bhavan accompanied by RCI – Shirva past president Denzil Castelino.
MLC Ivan D’Souza appreciated the humanitarian work being carried out by RCI for the benefit of the less privileged people of the society. He specially mentioned about the free monthly psychiatric camps that are being organized RCI - Shankerpura at Rotary Bhavan and gave his assurance of support.
The patients were examined by Dr Shibith and his team from Prasad Natralaya and Dr Nityananda Nayak, secretary of district eye department, Government Hospital. Out of 118 patients examined during the camp, 67 patients were registered for free spectacles and 26 for free cataract operation.
RCI – Shankarapura community service director Naveen Amin delivered the introductory address. RCI – Shankarapura secretary Clifford D’Mello proposed vote of thanks.
Rotaract – Shankarapura president Sumalata rendered the prayers. RCI – Shirva president Jerome Rodrigues welcomed the gathering.
