Mangalore: LPG Pipeline Project; DC to inspect proposed land acquisition sites at Neria

Mangalore, 4 Jul 2014: Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner (DC) A B Ibrahim will inspect the location of erecting a proposed pump house at nearby Neria in Beltangady taluk to lay LPG pipeline from Mangalore – Hassan – Mysore – Soloor; since the farmers are hell-bent on not allowing the land acquisition of their fertile farmlands in this regard.
DC Ibrahim announced this during the meeting of farmers from Hassan and Beltangady taluk, department officials here on Friday July 4.
The farmers expressed apprehension over pilfering of diesel by miscreants through drilling hole into diesel and petrol pipelines that was laid by Petronet, while DC Ibrahim advised the concerned officials to identify the spots and make sure there would not be any pilferage by properly welding the spot. He also instructed HPCL chief manager Muralidhar to submit a report of measures taken in this regard with the district administration.
Muralidar tried to convince the farmers on the multiple benefits of laying 397 kilometers of LPG pipeline, because it’s safe, reliable and profitable, lowest transport cost per unit of LPG in the long run, to reduce traffic bottlenecks, to reduce instances of natural calamities etc.
LPG is being transported from bottling plant from Mangalore by 3,500 tankers to various distribution points across south India. Nearly 150 tankers are moving on Shiradi, Charmadi and Sampaje ghats and involve in mishaps very often. One-hundred-and-nine such tankers were involved in road mishaps in the past 3 years, informed Muralidhar.
SP Dr Sharanappa, KIADB special land acquisition officer Ashok, ADC Sadashiv Prabhu, department officers, farmers of Beltangady and Hassan districts were present on the occasion.
