Udupi: Geologists opines landslide beneath surface caused deep trench at Manchikere

 Udupi, 2 Jul 2014: The geology department officers expressed the cause of caving in of road at Manchikere, Manipal was due to landslide beneath the surface and the hollow space resulted in forming a trench of over several feet away across the road.  
 
Meanwhile, the locals are not convinced of their expert opinion.  The locals are of the view that it was low-lying spot where rain water used to accumulate.  Over the years, the soil covered it without a trace of a pit.  The loose soil might have been settled deep below resulted in forming deep trench.

 

 


 
The town councilor Yuvaraj, deputy councilor Amruta Krishnamurti, steering Committee president Celina Karkada, locals Suresh Serigar, Sudhir Nayak and Yatish Karkera, ZP members, local gram panchayat members paid a visit to the location.
